We had the good fortune of connecting with Patrick Skiffington and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Patrick, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
I love the process of creation. Starting with an idea and creating something beautiful that can be worn and enjoyed. As a creative, my brain is always seeing what is possible and happiness comes from bringing ideas to life. Nothing is better and nothing makes me happier than seeing the joy on a Client’s face when we unveil their piece for the first time. They are typically much more than just fashion pieces. They are an opportunity to self express and tell the world something about yourself. There is nothing more beautiful and satisfying then helping someone tell their unique story through their fashion. That is my passion and what makes me happiest.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I spent many years as an Entrepreneur, growing businesses to make money. Though I was very successful and truly blessed in business, I never felt complete professionally. I sold my businesses about 10 years ago and made the decision to focus on my creativity and art and let the rest just follow. It was an uncomfortable decision to make and an even tougher one to execute because of my formal training and how I was conditioned to focus on business growth. That said, it was also one of the most-important decisions of my life. Unleashing creativity and more importantly, giving myself permission to allow that creativity to always be the core of how we bring value to those we serve. We are known for creativity and quality execution. We are Embroidery Artisans and have been truly blessed to be able to work on incredible and amazing projects with the brightest and best in Hollywood. We never say no and have created everything from one-of-one couture pieces to campaigns consisting of thousands of pieces. We love bringing visions to life through our art and collaborating as part of something bigger.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am a huge Malibu fan. Some of the most beautiful coastline in the country. I lived there for 5 years and whenever someone visits us, I always include a Malibu Sunday on the good times tour. Definitely a late lunch at Neptune’s Nest on the patio. Then Santa Monica and Abbott Kinney for some shopping before heading back to Beverly Hills for a late-afternoon cocktail at The Polo Lounge. Would definitely hit Chateau Marmont and the Courtyard Restaurant one night to take in some great Hollywood history. Would include Gwen (Curtis Stone’s Restaurant) and Craig’s. A must is also throwing on some vintage jeans and heading to the Sunset Strip for some comedy and music. The Laugh Factory, The Comedy Store, The Whisky-A-Go-Go and The Rainbow Bar & Grill.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people who have inspired and encouraged me through this journey. I would have to say that Fashion Designer, Jerry Lee Atwood, has been a huge inspiration and taught me to love and appreciate the art and process of creating chainstitch embroidery using 100-year old vintage machines. He also taught me to slow-up, not rush and enjoy and appreciate the process of creation. I am grateful for his impact on my work.
