We had the good fortune of connecting with Paulina De la Paz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Paulina, what principle do you value most?
Self love. I don’t think it is considered a value or a principle, but it is what I base all my work on. We live in a social media driven society where we constantly try to imitate fake personalities, we base our self-love search on all this internet false images, so we easily get lost in the process, we loose our self confidence and self love, and have a hard time on finding who we really are. That being said as stylist I believe my biggest challenge is to reconnect people with their own true selves and help them love who they really are, so that all their decisions, not only clothes wise, are based in confidence, love and self appreciation.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As I said before I am where I am because of my clients who believe in me. It was not easy to get where I am. Art isn’t the easiest road to take, but for me it has been all worth it. I had to leave my business, my country, my traditions, in order to just see if I was talented enough to be doing what I do, but when I realized that I was in the right path is when art showed me who I truly am. The biggest lesson I’ve learn is that in order to be successful you have to be unique. We usually think that if we imitate the ones who are already on top, we will also be on top, but from my experience, expressing my truth self, is what has given me more job opportunities, because we are unique. I would like the world to know that I do not see styling as a job. For me is a form of expression, a way of showing who the person Im dressing really is, what their soul looks like, what they need to express in that moment. Is creating a living sculpture of ones best self.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well its a hard one during covid times, but if we weren’t living thought this this is would be my perfect LA day: I would take them to debs park to hike and see the sunrise. Then we would go grab a juice at highland park followed by some coffee in Figaro bistro cafe in Los Feliz. After we would go have some homemade breakfast at my house and we would go to the reservoir park walking, to do some writing or reading. We would go shopping to Melrose and have late lunch at Noshi Sushi, we will some beers and sake. After we would go to the broad museum, and walk downtown to go watch the sunset at Perch with one glass of wine. After we would have dinner at Night market & song. Later on we would go to any concert at the Echo, followed by some party at either the Edition or Altutun, ending up with a Warehouse party in the arts district.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Its hard to do a shoutout to just one person, I am where I am because of all my clients who believed in my art. So if there is to do a shoutout to anyone, it would be to all of them.
