We had the good fortune of connecting with Paulina Duxbury and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Paulina, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Honestly I never thought about starting my own business. I was so scared of the thought of not having a steady paycheck coming in paid medical coverage. I worked a full time corporate position and would do wedding events on evenings and weekends until I built up enough clientele to quit my full time job. It was the best decision, leap of faith I have made in my life. I have turned my passion into my career and couldn’t be more proud!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I want to always create things that I would want myself.. Creating pieces that looked like they were just picked out of a garden are what I strive for. I think the biggest challenge for me is being an artist but also being constrained by the client. Most artists just create whatever they feel led to create. In the floral business you have to make sure your clients are happy as well with what you are creating for one of the most important days in their life. I have had to learn to create in a way that lines up with my design style within the guidelines of my client.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am a small business and love supporting other small business. I would want to start our mornings off with finding a great coffee shop (one that has great iced white mocha and great ambience to match). Next we would move on finding a good cheese and wine shop to pick out some favorites to enjoy as we ppl watch. I have a background in interior design so finding as many home decor shops would be a must as well.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I think you just need one person to believe in you . Of course I had the support of my family and friends but getting the support from a well known person in the Events industry is what helped launch my career. She believed in me from day one even when I didn’t believe in myself. She saw what others couldn’t see yet and to her I will be forever grateful. My husband is also a huge reason in my success. He is my number one fan and I couldn’t have done it and continue to do it with out him.
