We had the good fortune of connecting with Pauline Buhro and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Pauline, how do you think about risk?
coming into the creative industry, I think you have to be ready to take risks at all times, which is really hard to understand at first. But I strongly believe, that taking risks will only truly show what is supposed to be for you!
My biggest risk taking so far, was for sure leaving everything behind in Germany and moving to Los Angeles.
And I would do it all over again and again probably.
I learned loving risks in a hard way, it was for sure never easy, and it won’t get easier but the impact will grow each time and you will be stronger after each risk you take!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think there isn’t much that sets us artists apart from each other, we all share a same kind of passion no matter if it’s makeup, fashion or music. It took me a while to „accept“ my passion and what makes me truly me, there was not much of a community I had to share it with so I always kept it more to myself and didn’t really think about pursuing a job as a makeup artist.
As I started working as a freelance Beauty Makeup artist I pretty much knew this is not where it ends. Since I was little I was drawn to the beauty of special effects makeup and
after I finally felt like I was being understood following my passion, I felt like I wouldn’t fit anywhere, neither being understood, which of course can sometimes get pretty frustrating.
At some point I realized I would probably never challenge neither extend my knowledge or possible talent in what I was truly invested in, that’s when I decided to go from Berlin, Germany to Los Angeles and visit Cinema Makeup School .
The chapter of me going to Los Angeles and taking that risk is probably one of the best and most important decisions in my life.
I not only followed the dream of learning every day about special effects and expanding my knowledge, I grew in so many personal ways.
I am still in this process and I learned to enjoy it, with all the struggles and challenges that it comes with.
I figured out where I feel understood and where I will find myself being happy so whatever it will be I can only be excited for what it will teach me and gain growth.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Since I am still a sort of newbie in Los Angeles i might explore it with them. I think I would try to show them and introduce them more to what is my work and passion including the amazing people.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I think going thru this industry especially, having thruthful people with the same mindset or ambitions is super important ! I am so grateful for the people that have been going thru this journey with me like
Reza Hair , Mef Medicine or Darlyl Montañez!
Without those people I wouldn’t be where I am right now.
Coming to Los Angeles and visiting Cinema Makeup School, got me to know so many more amazing and talented people that I am more than grateful for meeting!
