We had the good fortune of connecting with Peace Park and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Peace, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Growing up, I was very interested in my appearance and had a deep love for fashion. My journey into martial arts began with Taekwondo, inspired by the stylish black belt and uniform. As a Taekwondo instructor, I frequently saw the dynamic performances and visually striking stages at Taekwondo competitions, which ignited my passion for motion graphics, where I saw the potential to merge visuals and performance in a captivating way.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Currently, I’m working as a brand motion designer at The New Company. While art and design might seem similar, they have distinct differences. Art often focuses on personal expression, while design is centered around communicating with a specific audience. For example, an artist might visualize ‘dynamic’ through a personal lens, exploring how their experiences can be translated into visual form. A designer, on the other hand, would consider how to visually represent ‘dynamic’ in a way that is immediately recognizable to the viewer. Every day presents new challenges, and solving these problems is a core part of my role. For instance, when a sports brand approaches us for a rebranding and requests a dynamic look similar to Nike, my challenge is to create a visual that not only meets those criteria but also sets the brand apart. I believe that extensive research is key to overcoming such challenges. While platforms like Pinterest and Behance are valuable resources, I also find inspiration in the natural world, from color palettes and layouts to the intricate patterns of insect wings and the mathematical principles behind flower petals. Furthermore, by exploring diverse cultures and their visual styles, I’m able to develop unique visual concepts.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
“L.A. is truly a city brimming with places to explore, and lately, I’ve been frequenting Sunset Boulevard. It’s a vibrant hub of charming shops, cozy cafes, and stunning antique furniture stores. The diverse array of restaurants, each with its unique interior, is simply captivating. I believe Sunset Boulevard is the epitome of L.A.’s multicultural landscape. From authentic Mexican taquerias to sophisticated Japanese sushi restaurants and trendy Italian eateries, it offers a culinary journey around the world. And let’s not forget the incredible people-watching! The street style on Sunset Boulevard is always a source of inspiration.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
One person who stands out in my early career is Tomasz Wysocki. As a fresh graduate, I started working at Koto Studio, where Tomasz became my mentor. His guidance was invaluable in helping me understand the nuances of motion design. While I had some freelance experience, it was the hands-on learning experience with Tomasz that truly shaped me as a motion designer. From motion principles to animation details, I learned so much by simply sitting beside him. Our professional relationship evolved into a deep friendship that continues to this day. Tomasz’s mentorship played a pivotal role in my growth as a motion designer.
