Meet Pegatina Criolla | Self-taught artist, antagonist of art, draftsman and empirical writer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Pegatina Criolla and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Pegatina, what inspires you?
My source of inspiration, my muse, my point of reference is life itself with all the elements that it has, ranging from experimental music, independent cinema, forbidden literature, the painting by Francis Bacon, the skateboard drawing by Mark Gonzales, the rarity and beauty of the people, the personal and other experiences, the family that for me is everything the same as non-art and a thousand other things that make up this world drawn by PEGATINA CRIOLLA.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
PEGATINA CRIOLLA is a fictional character, 90s actor, drawn skateboarder, acrylic and brush muralist, footballer and director of the emerging drawn art project native of “loma del divino niño” in Colombia, influenced by California pop surrealism, Brooklyn skateboarding in New York, art classic from Europe, punk music from England and for the colorful culture of my country in Colombia. The road has not been easy at all and more if you play with art there are already more than 14 years full of challenges, obstacles, frustrations and material and emotional losses, but loaded with a lot of constant learning grateful to life for showing you that this is and it will be the way. How I have been able to overcome these inconveniences is due to the perseverance and daily discipline with the drawing in addition to having the unconditional support of my family, the lessons that art has left me during all this time is to believe that I am a drawn actor without forgetting who I am without expecting anything from anyone if you want it, train hard and fight with yourself to get it. What I want the world to know about me is that in some corner of COLOMBIA there is PEGATINA CRIOLA the masked MAÑERISTA art who thinks that no matter where one comes from, anonymous art is the way in which the world can change and be a place best for everyone.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
INTINERARY WELCOME TO COLOMBIA FRIEND 1.First I would give him a skateboard to take him to the city center for breakfast almojabana with chocolate, tamale and cheese. 2. We would skate through the historic center of the city passing through several museums, we would visit some bookstores, record stores, theaters and some spots to skate before going to have lunch with fish with banana and coconut rice there is in El Centro. We would walk to Chapinero but before that I would take you to see CASA JAURIA, which is an intensely art space. 4.Go through the entire seventh until you reach the Only and skate in the 60 park for a while. 5.After continuing skating until we reach the art district in El Barrio San Felipe that is full of galleries, we would greet some friends at DIANTRES Y CASA AICCH. 6. We had eleven ounces at a ROSCON CON PONY MALTA bakery. 7.Entrance at night we would go skating around the city that there are several spots to visit 8. We ate pizza at the HXC pizzeria on 60 with a beer. 9. I would take him to ASILO to listen to punk or play TEJO. 10. To rest for the other day to go play a soccer game.

There are many people who have been part of this great art project that is not art called PEGATINA CRIOLLA and I want to thank all of them, but especially I want to take the opportunity to thank both of them my mother Yolanda and my sister Johanna who have been since the beginning of this story, because they are not only my best critics, my collectors, my fans, my friends, my muses, my references, but they have been a key piece for the success of this drawn project.
