We had the good fortune of connecting with Pelayo Ciria and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Pelayo, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Piano has always been in my life as my mom bought one before I was born because she wanted me and my sister to have a musical education. I started playing when I was 3 so after so many years, when I was a teenager, I realized it was my passion and what I thought I could do best in my future.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think my development as a musician and a pianist has always been in a search of getting to connect with people.

My goal for all my concerts is that there’s no one leaving the concert hall with out feeling something. It can be good or it can be something else but to affect people in some way should be our main concern as artists.

I consider myself a risky pianist in my way of playing, as I prefer to give everything into my performing, even if it comes not as perfect as a recording, but putting all my effort and heart for a unique performance.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I now live in New York, that is full of activities, shops, and fun things to do. I love trying new food, discovering new brands of clothing or finding a nice quiet spot to enjoy a view.

I love Italian food so that could be a nice option for me.

I am also a sneaker lover so I would definitely look for some sneaker shops.

A jazz concert can always be a fantastic experience, as it’s a really enjoyable atmosphere, so it could wrap up the day.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would of course thank my family first as they are the ones that introduced music in my life since I was born. They have always been supportive and encouraged me to pursue a musical career.

Also the friends I have made during my musical studies that have supported and been there when I needed them.

My girlfriend Guiomar. She is also a pianist and a composer and I play with her in our piano duo, “Duo Rex”.

And all my teachers since my first one to the one that I am studying with now, as they have accompanied me in my way to developing my career.
