We had the good fortune of connecting with Perk and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Perk, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
From an early age, I realized that I loved making people feel better. For me, seeing someone laugh or smile because of something I said, or did, made me feel like I was having a positive impact on the community. I spent my childhood as the “class clown” doing anything and everything to evoke a sense of wonder in people, to wake them up.

Once I became a musician, and realized that I could make a business out of writing and performing my songs, I fused that desire to make people feel good with my business of creating and performing. And now, my songs seek to uplift people and make them feel happy, and inspired. When I perform live, it’s a special opportunity to connect with the community and make them feel better,

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Great question! I’d have to say that I seem to possess an almost insatiable appetite for exploration, discovery and adventure. Many of the songs I write are about being true to yourself, and your dreams and desires that sometimes sit on the shelf. I like to think of myself as an musical artist who wakes people up to their own, personal awesomeness! I get the biggest thrill when someone says that my song inspired them to change course, do things differently, and live a lifestyle that is closer to their true essence…which I believe is the path to true happiness…peace of mind

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Without a doubt, the Southbay is my favorite spot in Los Angeles. I have lived in Hermosa Beach for 14 years, and the lifestyle is absolutely the best! With beautiful beaches, and so many great restaurants, cafes, and bars…I tell everyone to visit not only Hermosa Beach, but Manhattan and Redondo also. My go to place is Tower 12 on the Hermosa Plaza. I’ve performed here many times, and it has such a great vibe, it’s like being in someone’s beach house!

When I do get out of the Southbay, I always head to Malibu. The hiking trails and secluded beaches are such a glorious escape from the busy city. There is a magic in Malibu that I’ve always felt, and I love to take people up there to share this wonderful location.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my Shoutout to my Mom, who passed away when I was 19. Although we were very close, and loved each other dearly, she did not want me to pursue a career in music! Instead, she always thought I would be a wonderful weather man on the local news HAHA!! So I dedicate this to my Mom, Jane, and say to her, “still going Mom!”
