We had the good fortune of connecting with Perla Maarek and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Perla, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
I am inspired by a lot of visual things, but I would say most likely the light. I am a huge fan of the golden hours and sunsets, to me it’s magical. I am also inspired by beautiful outdoor wild locations, like the beach, desert, nature, mountains, flowers, trees etc… but sometimes an abandoned vintage gate can also catch my eye. Music inspires me too, I think visuals goes with sounds like a pair. And as fashion photographer also some type of feminine beauty inspires me the most, certain types of fabrics inspires me too like lace and see-through fabrics that lets the famous light shining through…

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
We are all unique, each artist, but I would say that my work is definitely sensitive, sensual and feminine. What I am the most proud of is to still doing what I love which is photography. What I am the most excited about is to work on creative project with creative people on great locations (I recently shot at the GOLDSTEIN house which is an iconic location in LA, it was so exciting and inspiring) with talented people. It’s has never been easy, and never will be. Only passion makes you go through hard times, there is always a rainbow after the storm, so sometimes you have to hang in there and keep going even though it can be hard sometimes. To never give up is the best lesson ever, because only people who try gets thing out of it, the only real failure is when you stop trying. I would like the world to know is that I am a truly passionate artist who crossed the ocean (I am from Paris) to live her American Dream.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The beach, I am such a nature lover but the ocean is a very special one to me, Malibu for a swim. Santa Monica for a drink and have diner, also shopping. Santa Monica Mountains for hiking. for 1 week maybe few days in Vegas 😉 The drive across the desert is magic. The greatest places to go for me is the beach: between Malibu, Santa Monica, Venice etc… we have so much choice!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
All the people I have been working with who sent business my way, like makeup artists I worked with, Agents I worked with, models, Agency owners, producers, stylists, disagners etc… I cannot name/list them all it would be too long! But they all deserve credit and recognition, and I am so grateful to have worked with that many amazing people.
