We had the good fortune of connecting with Peter Munzo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Peter, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Staying dedicated to my craft and continuously pursuing my career regardless of the situation. Giving up is the worst thing you can do and I’ve felt like my dedication and passion to becoming somebody in the music industry has been one of the defining factors into how my career has progressed.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I reached in a point in my life when I was 18 where I decided to go full fledge into pursuing a career in music. I sacrificed everything from family to friends and relationships and practiced my craft and being readily available for session and my passion and my eagerness to learn and succeed is what set me apart. I set aside all distractions and basically locked in and started making music full time with no breaks. It was definitely not easy and I feel like some luck was involved but they always say it takes skill to be lucky. There was many times I wanted to give up and do something else, but I knew deep down this is what was meant for me. You have to really love the art of music in order to have a career in it and that is something that I have always had. Life is not easy but I’ve learned through my hardships and struggles in life that everything happens for a reason regardless of how great or even how painful some things may be. Continue to strive towards your dream and don’t let anyone stop you or get into your head about it. The best thing I would recommend is to follow your gut because at the end of the day the one person that knows what’s best for you is you only. I have charted on the Billboard Top 200 5 times and I’m currently working on Chief Keef’s next album, Almighty So 2.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to a couple studio sessions to shadow me and just check out the vibe of the studios that I work in. Take them to a show in Hollywood at a small venue. Gotta hit up Mr. Chows or to Paradise Cove for a dinner/drink on the beach in Malibu. Also can’t forget Musso and Franks for the first place to introduce Fettuccine Alfredo to the US. I’m half Italian so this is definitely a go to for me. Some other place I would recommend would be Dan Sung Sa in Koreatown which is one of my favorite all time places. I like to golf too so if they were up for it I’d take them to Soule Park in Ojai. I have a membership at the Bacara Resort at Santa Barbara, so a little spa day would always be nice too.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to my family for always supporting me and believing in me through the good and bad. Shoutout to Bighead on the Beat for helping me out in the industry as both a friend and a mentor. Shoutout Hendrix Smoke for being a great friend and mentor as well and shoutout Alex Loyalty for helping me out and getting me my start in the industry.
