We had the good fortune of connecting with PG Culture and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi PG, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind our success is how we are able to bring pop culture references to our products. Surprisingly picking names for our products isn’t easy but it sure is fun. For example, we have a blueberry waffle scented candle named “I’m Making Waffles” which is a line from the 2000 film Shrek and another candle named “They See Me Rolling” which is a lyric from 2005 hit Ridin’ by Chamillionaire.

We are also a very Pro-Black business and it is shown through every facet of our business down to our name. Along with this, we have made it our duty to speak out on certain issues from Black woman empowerment, Black history, LGBTQ+, and other current events.

Our customer support is out of this world!! Without their constant reviews, retweeting, and liking we would be nothing. It also helps that we make our products with love, attention, care, and detail!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The main thing that sets us apart from others is that we have 3 CEOs who are Balck Women who are in S.T.E.M as well as social-emotional/ public health. We are very well-rounded and hope to keep going into any career field we feel even if it is separate from what we are doing now.

Courteney Providence – Assistant Director and S.T.E.M professional, with the desire to use technology to improve people’s lives and having a focus on helping students succeed in the classroom and beyond. With a degree in Information Technology working towards my Information Systems Management degree and several IT certifications. While being able to create fun relatable self-care products alongside my two co-owners, I am excited to grow both our business and my skills in future IT Project Management.

Kamree Hall – In 2020 I graduated from the illustrious Morgan State University with my bachelor’s degree in social work and this year I will be graduating with my master’s in social work from the University of Maryland. I have always wanted to help in a momentous way and mental health is very important to me. I plan on using my degree to help the youth understand their emotions and express themselves in a healthy manner as a way to break unhealthy family cycles. At its current time, I am proud to just be alive. I have learned that speaking up and following your own path may be scary but it is so worth it in the long run. it is also important that we do not compare journeys so we just have to look ahead to the good times and to fully submerge ourselves in the moment.

Thailaya Haynesworth – After graduating from Morgan State in 2019 I decided to continue my education and pursue my master’s degree in public health at George Washington University with the goal of achieving health equity after entering the workforce. I recently accepted a position as a Public Health Data Analyst in the private sector, a position that directly aligns with my goal as I’ll be a part of team analyzing data reported from health centers designed to close the gap on health disparities

We want the world to know that our items are hand-crafted and curated with care. The three of us juggling so much on top of this business, we really realized the importance of self-care so each item that we released is designed with peace in mind. We hope that your PGC products allow you to really unwind and relax because you deserve a stress-free and abundant life. From time to time we all can get so lost in this race that we forget to take a step back and breathe- but with a candle that’s reminds you of simpler times (Saturday Morning), your skin being amazingly nourished and moisturized while you relax in a comfortable hoodie how could you not just, just be- at ease

We want the world to know that you deserve stress free and overflowing happiness.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Because we are based in the DMV ( DC, Maryland, and Virginia) there is so much we could do in a matter of minutes. there are a plethora of dining options like Union District Oyster Bar & Lounge in union market. Then we would go on a classy boat ride with the Yachtsy company which is located at the wharf in DC and to end the trip we would go to Next Act Cinema, they have the most comfortable movie chairs and they sell alcohol with their movies. If we are feeling adventurous we would go to Kilgore Falls and hike to the beautiful waterfall and eat some crabs because Maryland, duh.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
