Meet Phill Mycup: Artist, songwriter and Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Phill Mycup and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Phill, the decisions we make often shape our story in profound ways. What was one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make?
One of the most difficult decisions I’ve had to make was dropping out of college. I never had the best grades in High School but I knew I wanted to go to college to make my parents proud. But once I got there I realized that it wasn’t for me, I hated the system. So once I made the decision to leave and make music, I knew that I had to be successful. I owe to the people that believe in me, and I owe it to myself.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I would definitely say I’m different from my peers when it comes to music, there’s no one around that sounds like me. I make a fusion of Dancehall & Haitian Kompa, most of the time produced by me.
I’m not where I want to be but I’m getting closer and closer everyday. I’ve had the opportunity to perform on big stages like Summer Jam in 2017 opening for major artist such as Lil Wayne, Chris Brown, French Montana, etc. I have over 250k streams and I’m only from Everett, Ma. Boston’ doesn’t have a big music scene so those numbers mean a lot to me.
It’s not easy being in the music industry, you’ll have a lot people try to sell you dreams. If you buy into you might end selling your life away. I do a lot of research on music contracts so when my time comes I’ll know what to do and I won’t get screwed like most of these artist.
I’ve learned to stay true to myself. Don’t fake an image for likes and streams. Every song I wrote/ write is about my real life. Things I’ve been through or experiences my friends been through. You will never hear me say anything that doesn’t add up to my lifestyle.
I just want the world to know that I love what I do. I’ve always been around music and new I wanted to be an artist since I was 5. God has a plan for me and I made a promise to execute it. I was never back down and I won’t stop until all my goals are accomplished.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m not going to lie, Boston isn’t the best place to live but if you know the right people you’ll have a blast. First stop would be Earls Kitchen in Somerville, Ma. That restaurant has the most beautiful women, best drinks and food. What else could you ask for?! ; After that I would have to take them to my favorite hookah lounge in Methuen called Elixir. It has the best music and vibes to have a great night. I never leave there Unsatisfied.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a special shout-out to my team CGF, they always make sure I stay focused. When I get to comfortable and start slacking they get on me. I also want to give a shout-out to my fans, they’ve supported me since day one!
