We had the good fortune of connecting with Phoenixx Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Phoenixx, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
It’s not just about going Viral or having “One hit “ record if you’re goal is to be successful in the Music industry. It takes tenacity, marketing, a team of believers and consistency. It takes making a million mistakes and not losing steam after something doesn’t work. It requires an open mind and being willing to be criticized publicly over and over until something sticks.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

My Artistry sets me apart by my voice , style of writing and intent. I represent the Anti. I move in love and based off integrity. I want my career to be an example to others that self belief is the biggest asset you to need to make a mark on the world. I’m Most proud of my transitions, I began releasing music as a Singer and now have pivoted to Singer/Songwriter and rapper. In 2022 I headlined a Music festival B.A.M.S in Boston and look forward to doing more ! I also just recently released my first Hip hop single “Evolution” out now !

I began my career in Music in High school as a professional songwriter and arranger. I then sung Background vocals for various popular indie artist , then began producing vocally and writing for indie artist. I was in a Rock Soul band 2 years and all the while cultivating my own career.. I’ve overcome misogyny, colorism, featurism and feeling Alienated for being an Alternative black Artist at a time when it wasn’t as popular as it is today. It was hard walking into rooms , presenting your art and being judged by your looks. Unfortunately today we (as woman ) still are. I’ve learned that amongst all the struggles being consistent and great will prevail even if it takes time. I’ve learned that you’ve got to do Music because you love it , any other reason and you will quit. Real musicians take breaks but never quit. We love it too much.

I want my brand to know and be remembered as a matriarch for the misunderstood, the “oddballs” and misfits. The ones who don’t fit in and don’t want to. The artist who may not be all Rnb or Hip hop.Blends of Fusion artist and creatives. Someone who marches to their own beat and also leaves a trail for those who want to follow. I hope I inspire people to fully openly embrace their authenticity.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a Music head so my day definitely includes a show or concert. A trip to the beach at Santa Monica is always nice. Then a cool Sunday at leimert park.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
This Shout out goes to my Good friend Jamie Ehrenfeld. She is the epitome of loyalty and the definition of support. She not only supports my Career but drove me across the entire country in a pandemic to relocate from Nyc to LA. She champions me and always provides a positive perspective. She also champions for various other Artists in Nyc and overall a hyper intelligent and empathetic human being. I hope I can repay her back one day. She deserves the love she gives.
