We had the good fortune of connecting with Phylicia Yates and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Phylicia, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My decision to start my own lash extension business stemmed from my personal experiences as a client. I was a regular at various salons, frequently getting my lashes done, but often found myself not entirely satisfied with the results. I realized that the outcomes didn’t always meet my expectations, which sparked a desire in me to address this gap.
Recognizing the opportunity to improve upon the quality and artistry of lash extensions, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I became deeply passionate about the craft and trained extensively to become a certified lash esthetician. My goal was to not only enhance my own satisfaction but to offer a level of precision and artistry that clients like myself would appreciate.
Starting my own business allowed me to create an environment where attention to detail and client satisfaction are top priorities. It was this firsthand experience of dissatisfaction that drove me to ensure that others could have a more fulfilling and personalized lash experience. My personal journey from client to professional has been the foundation of my business philosophy and success.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am incredibly proud and excited about the progress my work has made over time. When I look back at my earlier lash sets compared to my current work, it’s clear how much dedication I’ve poured into perfecting my craft. My goal has always been to continually improve, and this journey is a testament to that commitment. I am deeply grateful to my loyal clients and friends, who have been instrumental in spreading the word about my business. Their support has been invaluable in helping me grow and refine my skills.
Being a Lash Esthetician in a rapidly growing industry is challenging, as it requires constant adaptation and differentiation. I overcame these challenges by paying close attention to the feedback from both my loyal and new clients. By focusing on what they wanted, and I was able to create a signature look that sets me apart and perfecting my most requested lash set, “Not Too Much Classic,”.
One of the key lessons I’ve learned is the importance of consistently perfecting your craft, whether you’re fully booked or not. Your work will always speak for itself, and maintaining high standards is crucial, regardless of the circumstances.
What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that my highest priority is my clients’ satisfaction. I am dedicated to exceeding their expectations with excellence. Even when the journey feels long and challenging, I believe in perseverance—’The Marathon Continues.’”
