We had the good fortune of connecting with Polina Yatsuk and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Polina, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
My three simple rules for achieving success are: never give up, focus on your goals and believe in yourself. It may seem trivial, but all these principles really work. Throughout our lives we all face difficulties and failures and it is only through perseverance that we can overcome the obstacles that stand in our way. When we have a clear understanding of what we are trying to accomplish, it is much easier to achieve our goals.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I began my modeling career when I was 18 years old in Russia, a country known for its abundance of beautiful women. In my teenage years I was quite shy and lacked self-confidence so when I was first approached by a modeling agent, I didn’t really give it much thought. It was only after several other agencies began noticing me that something changed in my mindset and I began to seriously consider pursuing a modeling career.

My first runway show at Russian Fashion Week was a huge success—I actually closed the show! I remember feeling very nervous but my family’s support helped me through it. Since that first show, over ten years ago, I have done more than 47 runway shows and each one of them holds a very special place in my heart.

I am now working in America and have plans to further develop my career here. Just a couple of years ago I couldn’t have ever imagined participating in New York Fashion Week and having my photographs featured in international magazines. I certainly wouldn’t have thought of having a view of the Hollywood Hills from my own apartment window. It just goes to show that dreams really can come true!

I hope my experiences will inspire your readers to believe in their own abilities. There are no limitations to what we can accomplish except those that we impose on ourselves. You already possess everything you need – you have yourself, and that’s enough!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love Los Angeles and all its natural beauty, so the first thing we would do is take an easy morning hike in Griffith Park or, if we were up for a more ambitious hike, we would venture up the Hollywood Hills. After working up a sweat we would enjoy a refreshing Bobo Tea or have breakfast at a traditional diner.

In the afternoon I would suggest a stroll along Venice Beach to enjoy the fresh, cool air by the ocean. Later that day we could visit the La Brea Tar Pits or take in a museum or two such as MOCA or the Hammer Museum.

In the evening we might want to drop by the Bulgogi Hut, where they prepare the best Korean BBQ in the city.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have to give a big shoutout to my mom and dad for endlessly supporting and always believing in me—especially in my modeling career; to my husband for loving me just the way I am; to my modeling agency (EMG models) for giving me the opportunity to be part of their wonderful team and to my English teacher for helping me overcome the language barrier.
