We had the good fortune of connecting with POPOFF and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi POPOFF, what matters most to you?
What’s most important in my opinion is authenticity. Be authentic. I really don’t care what you do or if some people consider you good or bad, but please be authentic. I’d rather hang out with an authentic asshole than a shallow nice person. Authenticity, as in being your true self, is the only thing that makes you stand out of the crowd, not the clothes, not the status, not the image you portray.

Also the most important principle is the practice of taking what’s yours and expressing gratitude. Anything you desire can be yours, if you want it enough.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
To anyone that doesn’t know me yet, my name is POPOFF and I’m a Pop Rock artist. My band consists of incredibly talented friends from Sweden and Japan. I have been playing shows since the beginning of this year and it’s been going very well, people love it, I love it. Creating our own cult is sort of a cool thing now haha. I’m very much looking forward to touring and playing festivals, hopefully soon, the goal is 2024.

My music is everything to me. I’m releasing my best work early next year, songs that I am truly connected to. My drummer Rasmus and I have been working on this masterpiece since January. Future reader: Yeah we did that.

About the question: ‘We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others?’ It’s not really what sets you apart from others, but what makes you unique. Competition is the worst poison for art, creativity is everything. Be very playful with your creativity, whatever time it is, when it hits, get that stuff out, even if you wake up  from a dream at 4 am.

A little about myself: I’m originally from Switzerland, grew up playing in bands, studied Sound Arts & Music and Media Arts, been professionally producing & engineering for 10 years now.

What I need people to know is that you absolutely can and should produce your own music. Don’t take shortcuts. Do you think Daft Punk would have been as legendary as they are if they just asked someone for beats? Think again.

Lastly, since last summer I finally found my true sound, back to my roots, back to what I loved playing when growing up. I’m a true pop rock 90’s baby. POPOFF is my dads last name so it was very obvious to me I would go by that. Shoutout Obvi for pointing that out lol.

I would like to emphasize that creating a true work of art might not take much time in that very moment, but a long preparation that’s called LIFE.

.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I have about 7 to 8 people visiting me from Europe annually, these are my fav spots:

Best burger: Hinano in Venice. Order the World Famous cheese burger with bacon.

The Getty museum. Much better view than the observatory. And a very clean vibe.

Hike the Wisdom tree, but not from where Google or Apple maps say. You have to start at the bottom of the hill on the Universal City side. Climb over the fence, no one cares.

Other places I take people to are Korean bbq, going fishing, mexican food, six flags, Canes, and Malibu Beach.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout to my University teacher Daniel Weissberg for real. He was always brutally honest, told me how terrible something was and made me question why I did what I did. That’s really important in this world. I can not stress it enough, if you like something tell them WHY, and if you don’t – do not under any circumstance tell someone that you think what they’re doing is cool when it actually sucks. Honesty is our last resort in this world.

Also shoutout to my incredible band, all my fans, as well as my future fans, I really f*ck with you guys, playing these songs live is what I live for.

My third shoutout goes out to my friends, you guys are killing it.
