We had the good fortune of connecting with Priya Patel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Priya, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
Don’t give up! Our (amazing) awards program with my magazine Kiddable was off to a slow start. But this year the participation quadrupled. There is lots of room to grow but this exponential growth proves it was worth staying the course.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Kiddable is a magazine/blog specializing in content for parents aimed at helping them find the best recipes, activities, and media to enjoy with their families.

In 2023 we launched the Kiddable Awards, there were some big changes moving into 2024 as well as significant growth.

We discovered that there aren’t enough award programs focused 100% on children’s authors and illustrators. We think creators in that niche deserve their own place to shine. The Kiddable Awards focuses on indie authors or small presses who excel at what they do.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Disney Land – probably 2 days

The Burbank Mall – for shopping and a movie (that could easily be a full week, just shopping)

Round One – To bowl and have some pizza

On day 5 I’d want to take them to the Santa Monica Pier for sight seeing and drinks.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a Shout Out to someone who doesn’t need one, but deserves one. Oprah! The fact she became a media mogul and created the content she wanted and that she knew others wanted serves as a huge inspiration to women in publishing.
