We had the good fortune of connecting with PYXIE and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi PYXIE, do you have a budget? How do you make lifestyle and spending decisions?
I prefer not to live by budgets because budgeting is a form of scarcity. Our mind is so powerful. When we repeat the numerical limitations that we live by in our head, then our reality exists accordingly. This creates energetic restrictions that can limit possibly doing better for ourselves down the line.

Instead of using a rigid number for budgeting, I rather shift the perspective. I don’t need much to be content in life. Which by default makes many things doable and affordable. I have more than enough clothes, but I’ll also buy something if I love it. If I feel like eating out, then I’ll do that too. It’s not about the size of the space I live in versus how I feel in that space. A smaller space will do just fine. Overall, I have everything I need and through this gratitude, everything is somehow always taken care of. Knowing that I can eat what I want, buy what I want and go out where I want when I want, gives me the power to know that I have that option should I want to exercise it. As a result, I only end up doing what I want when I genuinely want to do it, which is even more tasteful and easily possible. I appreciate wherever I am in my life, and I know that I’ll be able to do even better for myself as I continue on.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I write songs, and I sing them too. What started out as simple raps for high school projects turned into one of my biggest passions, music. It’s beautiful to see the evolution of how my songs developed. Songwriting is like a muscle. Through continuous writing, my songs got better over time. The artistic part of the process was easy, since that came naturally. This included crafting the lyrics and flow of the song. The production side has always been more difficult for me. Initially starting out, it was a bit of a challenge finding the right producers to work with. You’re also trying to figure out your sound and identity as an artist. Not only that, but you want your producer to be on the same wavelength as you (pun intended). As an artist, you have a creative vision of how you want your song to come to life, and sometimes you don’t have the words to explain. Luckily for me, my producers have understood me, guided me and helped me bring my vision to life. The most important thing in all of this was trusting my gut in the process. No one knows your vision like yourself and it’s your job to protect it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Los Angeles which has anything and everything. There are so many places to go. There’s the LA Zoo, Griffith Observatory (I’d get tickets to a planetarium show), the Huntington Library (plus any other botanical gardens I can find), the Langham for some tea time, bowling, the Laugh Factory. I’d look into concerts going on in the area and maybe even some sports games. Is it even LA if you don’t get fruit in a cup from a colorful umbrella, downtown dogs or street tacos? I’m Armenian, and LA actually has the second largest Armenian population compared to #1 which is Armenia itself. I’d take my best friend to my favorite Armenian restaurant in town; Carousel. I’d even take my best friend to watch horse jousting at Medieval Times because why not. Rest assured, that week would be filled with so many wonderful experiences.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to give a shoutout to my mentor, Amy Asaturyan. I wouldn’t be the person I am today without her. She’s brilliant. It’s because of her that so many wonderful things have happened in my life. She’s made me believe that it’s all possible and I’m eternally grateful for her.
