We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel Reyna and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rachel, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
The most important lesson you learn as being a hairdresser and salon owner is listening, people tell you what they need and want, not always in so many words but if you read between the lines they are always telling you. Sometimes it’s direct, like I want this haircut, and sometimes it’s indirect with a lot of problem solving to get there. Becoming a better listener helps you in all aspects of the salon, your stylists needs, your clients needs. It’s a great tool in my home life too for my relationship, and raising kids.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I never began as a hairdresser with intent to own my own salon, but over a 20+ year career I have learned a lot about what makes a good salon tic. I couldn’t say no to an opportunity when I found a great space to host other likeminded hardworking talent. In our industry so many things have changed and continue to evolve, especially on the business end making it easier for individuals to run their own books and schedules. I wanted a safe space where we could interact and support and lift each other up,

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Stillwater, MN is a fun touristy town. There’s the St Croix River and you can walk along it, there are many cute shops downtown. There is great food. We would definitely go to Matchsticks restaurant and Stillwater proper, my two favorites
