We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel Vogel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rachel, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?

I’ve always been told that in order to be successful I have to do that which others can’t do, won’t do, or don’t know how to do.

When I had the idea to create 3Q, a podcast interviewing music industry executives, I had to be sure it was different from the abundance of other music industry podcasts and short-form interviews. To do that, I set out to ask only three questions, with a commitment that the interview takes no more than fifteen minutes.

Keeping in line with doing what others can’t do, won’t do, or don’t know how to do, in part my success is due to my commitment to my craft. Although I work full-time, in addition to hosting the podcast, I ensure every aspect from scheduling, editing, creating assets, and posting social content is handled meticulously.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My career began with the most amazing internships working for iconic brands in the music industry, including two at Republic Records. This led to my first full-time position working for a joint venture with Columbia Records at Sony Music Entertainment. My current position is Manager of Global Digital Accounts for Warner Music Experience, a division of Warner Music Group. As the U.S. Lead for major short-form partnerships with companies such as TikTok and Pinterest, I work directly with all labels, responsible for introducing new concepts, delivering best practices, and generating ideas for their artists. Just eight months in, my role has expanded to include global responsibilities.

While this journey has not been easy, most things in life are not. What makes it all worthwhile, is the opportunity to work with amazing, talented, people who I learn from every single day. What sets me apart is my commitment to excellence. I accept nothing less than the best from myself and will do whatever it takes, not only for me to succeed, but for my team, department, and company, knowing I had a small part in it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were to visit for a week, I’d want to show them the LA that in my short time here I have come to know and love. Los Angeles is an ideal location for foodies. The dessert pancakes at BeaBea’s in Burbank is an amazing way to start your day, especially their S’mores pancakes. No trip to LA is complete, however, without a meal at Inn of The Seventh Ray in Topanga Canyon. My lunchtime favorite is their black bread grilled cheese with a side of truffle fries. Being that I’m a burger girl, always have been, Island’s classic burger and fries with a side of ranch or the double-double from In-N-Out with a neapolitan milkshake are a staple for at least one night’s dinner.

As athletes who love to hike, the trip would not be complete without a sunset hike at Runyon Canyon. Then when we’re thoroughly exhausted from the hike, it’s time to get in the car and take a scenic drive to Malibu with a stop at El Matador Beach. Of course, boutique shopping is always on the list whether we’re on the Santa Monica promenade or Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills.

Everyone knows that LA has some of the most amazing entertainment venues and an incredible music scene. So, no trip would be complete without visits to The Greek Theatre, Hollywood Bowl, or The Troubadour.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
No matter the industry or career path someone chooses, their success is always a team sport. The key players on my team have been and continue to be my parents. They are the leaders of my fan club, always reminding me that I can accomplish anything as long as I believe I can. This belief and constant use of vision boards has helped me from landing my first full-time position and moving across the country to advancing my career and launching my podcast.

Specifically, a huge shoutout to my mom for being my sounding board 24/7. She’s the first person I call whether I need a question answered, a shoulder to cry on, or someone to celebrate with. And to my dad, who is always my number one fan, a shoutout for always reminding me to stay focused, grounded, know what’s important, and to know my worth. I would not be the person I am today, personally or professionally, without them.
