We had the good fortune of connecting with Radina Veliova and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Radina, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
I’ve always had a knack for being disciplined and motivated. I set big goals for myself, sometimes even laughably ambitious (haha), and then I break them down into bite-sized pieces – things I can tackle within a week, month, or year. It’s like that saying goes, “How do you eat an elephant? – One bite at a time.”
Optimism is my jam, and I’m not one to back down easily. Instead of throwing in the towel, I’m all about finding fresh angles to solve a puzzle or face a hurdle. Changing my perspective to view challenges as chances rather than roadblocks has been my secret weapon. It’s amazing how much that shift in mindset can do!
What should our readers know about your business?
Introducing Vocals on Stage Music Academy – a haven I crafted fueled by my passion for teaching, singing, and guiding aspiring artists to unlock their vocal potential. And oh boy, am I a total voice nerd – I dive headfirst into the intricate world of this fascinating instrument.
Back in my younger days, my voice wasn’t exactly a celestial melody. To be frank, my vocal habits in both speech and song were far from optimal, bordering on hazardous. But a desire to sing resonated deep within me, and despite the hurdles, I persisted. Those challenges morphed me into the devoted coach I am today. I thrive on nurturing progress, providing the keys to a more vibrant and resilient voice. Witnessing those ‘aha moments’ on my students’ faces, that radiant sense of accomplishment as they glimpse their vocal prowess is my ultimate reward.
Vocals on Stage is where the real musical magic goes down. Our academy focuses on Voice, Vocal Health, and Artist Development but that’s not all! Now, don’t get it twisted – we’ve got Voice lessons that’ll blow your mind, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
In addition to offering Voice lessons, we also offer Piano and Guitar. However we don’t just teach classical piano, but instead, we teach a variety of music genres and focus on teaching these instruments to accompany yourself as a singer.
So, if you’re up for a wild musical ride, you’re in for a treat at Vocals on Stage. No matter your vibe, we’ve got you covered. Let’s make some tunes, shall we?
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a big traveler and foody and the 2 combined are just marking my perfect day. My favorite spots in LA are certainly centered around the beach, being in nature, food, and culture.
Starting the day with a delicious cup of coffee and a fresh croissant at Blue Bottle Cafe or Blue Butterfly Cafe in El Segundo, while taking a nice morning walk in Playa del Ray is a great way to start off the day.
I personally like a morning workout, and on the weekends I take my time to get ready so don’t rush the process 😉
A pedicure before lunch will refresh your feet and mind. After that it’s lunchtime!
I love cute restaurants like Bianca in Culver City, Playa Provisions in Playa or Salt in Marina del Rey. In the afternoon we’d take a tour at the Griffin Observatory or the Getty Museum before we head over to Margots or Botega Wine Bar for a before-dinner drink.
Nighttime’s the charm – a show at Ahmenson, LA Opera, or Geffen Playhouse if I’m feeling fancy. Or just vibing at home with Thai takeout – gotta be real, I’ve got a toddler ruling the roost.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My partner Alex Calle; my mentor teachers Chrissy Cooley Rogers, Rocio Guitard, and the IVTOM Organization; my professor Dr. Kochis-Jennings and the Voice Foundation.
