We had the good fortune of connecting with Rage Ng and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rage, is there something you believe many others might not?
“Fake it ‘til you make it”

The advice,“Fake it ‘til you make it,” is good for more conventional professions, such as sales, or perhaps even entertainment.
The sentiment of this advice is, at its core, innocuous and is meant to instill confidence, charisma and a little Bravado.

I, however, train professional fighters.
Faking a fighter’s level of experience can have dire consequences. Even Worse … would be faking the Coach’s level of experience/ knowledge.

In Elite Professional Fighting and Coaching you need immense experience, strong credentials and a proven track record.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Head Coach & Founder of Engage Your Rage MMA, a.k.a the EYR Division

I started as an MMA Fighter back in the era known as “The Dark Ages of MMA”. In the late 1990’s due to corrupt politicians, and monopolistic corporate practices, MMA was banned from most broadcasting, Pay Per View, and cable television. MMA was illegal in several states, especially New York (I lived in NYC at the time), which created an underground fight scene. This is where I had my career…not televised, but well-paid!

When I fought from 1997-2001, fights were bare knuckle with very few rules. Brutal… but spectacular!

Early in 2001, I had a training accident and suffered a blowout fracture of my left orbital, which abruptly ended my fight career.

I had to get a “real job”. I was hired by Eastern Athletic Clubs as their Corporate Director of Personal Training. This position enabled me to drastically expand my Biomechanics and Exercise Sciences education. The depth of knowledge in these sciences is one of the major attributes that sets me apart in my industry.

After moving to LA with my wife, I put all of this experience and expertise into building my brand, Engage Your Rage (EYR). We focus on finishing fights fast and decisively, which we refer to as “the One Bell Mindset.” The bell rings, and we aim to finish the fight before the next bell. Fighting this way requires one to be hyper technical, highly aggressive, and extremely fit. I am an elite, world class trainer, and expect all of my fighters, including my amateurs, to rise to the same standard.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

If you’re my friend, you will be training at Hidden Hand Jiu Jitsu, in Redondo Beach, all week. Depending on how good of a friend you are, I’ll even hold Thai pads and focus mitts for you.

For fun and some of the best live entertainment available, we would hit up the Commerce Casino, which hosts some phenomenal MMA promotions. We would absolutely head over to Thunder Studios and watch Lights Out XF. This is the MMA promotion of NFL Star, Shawne Merriman. My fighter, Blake “Bulletproof” Troop, does commentary for them … and is their current Heavyweight Champion. Great show, good time and you’d get to kiss some babies and shake some hands.

We will have dinner at Primo Italia in Hillside Village.

Finally, if my friends want to go to the beach, I would take them to Rat Beach in Palos Verdes. The name is not great, but the seclusion absolutely is.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Blake “Bulletproof” Troop, the quintessential EYR Fighter! LightsOut MMA Heavyweight Champion. Superstar personality, Professional Wrestler, Entertainer and Commentator.

Kenny Johnson, Founder Creator of BOLT WRESTLING. World Class MMA Wrestling Coach. Owner of Black House MMA Redondo Beach. My Wrestling Coach.

Erik Paulson, Founder of CSW – Combat Submission Wrestling and Legend in the MMA World. A mentor of my fight career.

Tom Purvis, Creator of Resistance Training Specialist, World renowned expert in Exercise Mechanics. Tom made me scientifically literate and gave me a bulletproof thought process.

Sifu Kevin Seaman, Elite Martial Artist and Teacher. He has authored many mental skills and personal improvement books. “The Winning Mindset.”

Scott Henricksen, Cinematographer, DP, Visual Artist. Scott is extremely successful in his craft, I was just stupid lucky to be friends with him. Scott designed the EYR Logo and filmed a documentary about Engage Your Rage.
