We had the good fortune of connecting with Rahul Nath and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rahul, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I wanted to be in control in making my own content and articulate the content that I wanted to produce,

I also wanted to really execute the different genres that I most of the time, would not get cast in.

I am comedy guy and everything I do is comical. So naturally as an actor, that’s the vibe that I give off all the time and hence, the work that I book all the time.

But as a filmmaker and a writer, it’s a complete one eighty, and I love making dramatic content, that is dark and disturbing. Though some of my projects are a hybrid of comedy and drama, usually the meat of my scripts are all dramatic.

Getting my company – Nik Nak Productions, off the ground was really created for the reasons above and also to cater to the ever changing mediums that we now have, such a short episodic content of 15 mins episodes.

What should our readers know about your business?
My production company – NIK NAK PRODUCTIONS, was established to make content that is shocking, entertaining and also goes where, no other filmmaker goes.

I myself have always been non conventional and never fitted into any type or mold, And that is really what my company reflects.

All my content is really ‘off on a tangent’ and everything I make is a HUGE risk, because it does not fit any norm. But this is what sets me apart and this is what keeps people interested in my work. As the years have gone, that being different and being unique, has given me so much confidence to go ahead and continue to make the kind of content, that I want to be a part of.

I am proud of all the work that I have done so far, but I feel most proud that I was able to make my feature movie – KHAZANA, at the time that I did and proud that I never listened to anyone and went ahead and did it. Not only did it give me the confidence to make more content, it also taught me so much that I needed to know as a filmmaker.
I am now ready to shoot my second feature – SUICIDAL, that is a project that I have been passionate about for years.

I feel when you are doing the work that you want to do, everything is easy. It’s when you are having to do things that you don’t want to do, the work becomes hard. But honestly, having my own company, allows me to create all my dream projects in the way that I want to and also the way that I envisioned them.

The lessons that I have learned is that you have to have conviction. If you don’t have that, then people around you are not grounded and they are not in it with their whole heart. When you show your conviction and passion, the right people, with the same belief, naturally end up in your circle and you end up on the glorious movie making path together.

My brand is unique. Not only because I am South Asian, but it’s because I am also a guy from the LGBTQ+ community, I am a guy of color and I am also a guy with an accent, that people are shocked to hear, that I have, But when you put this all together, you have exactly what my company stands for – stories and people from all walks of life.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am a theme park fanatic – so it has to be Six Flags first, followed by Universal Studios and Disney.

Once that’s all done, then it has to be the major cities in California. Los Angeles of course. followed by San Francisco and my favorite, San Diego ( I would live there if I could)

Los Angeles, I would show them the Hollywood Sign, the Walk of Fame and also all the other cities that make up LA.

San Francisco – it would have to be the Golden Gate Bridge, TwinPeaks, Alcatraz island and Lombard Street

San Diego – I just love the city, but my favorite is the Gaslamp and the Marina – all the hotels are amazing there – especially the Grand Hyatt Manchester

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have been so fortunate that being an immigrant, who came to this country very later in life, that my entertainment path has worked out for me.

There are so many people to thank, that this list can go on and on and on.

But to keep a long story short, I really have to thank all the casting directors, both in the commercial and theatrical world, who kept and still keep calling me in, In my first year of moving to Los Angeles., I had THREE national campaigns that were on the air at the same time. Many people, including myself, thought I had just been lucky. But then again, two years later, I had another THREE on the air.

And when it comes to Film/TV, I was naturally thrown into international cinema and also high profile shows, with comedic legends and established networks and directors.

When it came to creating my own content, again so much lined up at the right time and right place, that I guess it was a magic power above that orchestrated this all for me.
