Meet Ramon Lyons | Filmmaker & Multi-hyphenate Creative

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ramon Lyons and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ramon, how do you think about risk?
I believe my entire adult life has been one big risk after another. I went from graduating from Georgetown University to making a decision to chase an idea of being a filmmaker with no prior experience in that field. That led me to sleep on couches of former teammates of mine while I was producing my first documentary. And when there were no couches I had to resort to luggage bags. The only thing that kept me sane was my Faith and the belief that I was going to make this work. I had no plan B and doubled down on my dream until it came my reality.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I try to to create things that are a reflection of where I am emotionally and mentally at the moment. Whether it be clothing, songs, films, etc. I kind of let the feelings guide the direction of story I want to tell. Then assess which medium best serves that story the best. It’s not an exact science by any means, but I try to surround myself with filters, to ensure that the most authentic version of that story sees the light of day. Some lessons learned is to over-communicate with people, clarity is always best for a smooth production and it is something that I’m constantly striving to get better at. What I want the world to know about me is that I will always strive to tell interesting stories that make you not only feel but think. And that I am always looking to create platforms and communities to showcase talent across all disciplines.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to the arts district for sure. There’s a ton of dope spots over there like Soho Warehouse, EightyTwo, and Arts District Brewing Co..

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoutout my parents for instilling the confidence and ability in me to chase my dreams fearlessly and providing the endless love and support along this journey.
