We had the good fortune of connecting with Ramoni Overton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ramoni, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
At Glow with R.O. Yoga, my mission is to create safe, welcoming wellness spaces specifically designed for Black and Brown women. Through unique Hip-Hop and R&B yoga classes, I aim to provide an experience where my students feel welcomed, valued, and represented.
The wellness industry often lacks diversity and representation. Too often, when Black and Brown women step into a yoga or fitness class, they find themselves surrounded by people who don’t look like them, with instructors who might not understand their unique experiences. This can lead to feelings of isolation and the sense that wellness spaces weren’t built for us.
On top of that, many yoga studios are located in affluent areas like Hollywood and Beverly Hills, leaving communities in South LA with fewer accessible options for wellness activities. This disparity sends a harmful message: that wellness is a luxury rather than a right.
Glow with R.O. Yoga is here to change that narrative. I want our community to feel that wellness is something they can access right in their backyard, without having to travel far or feel out of place. By offering these Hip-Hop and R&B yoga classes, I strive to create a space where women can show up as their full, authentic selves and feel like they truly belong.
Wellness should never feel exclusive. It’s my goal to help Black and Brown women reclaim it as their own.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My intention is what truly sets my yoga classes apart. I created this space with underrepresented groups in mind, specifically Black and Brown women, because I wanted to offer them a wellness experience where they felt genuinely seen, valued, and validated. For far too long, the wellness industry has overlooked our needs, and I’m proud to be apart of a movement that’s working to change that.

What also makes my classes unique is the music. I incorporate a hip-hop and R&B playlist into my sessions, creating a nostalgic or familiar vibe that resonates with my students. The playlist alone becomes a source of joy and connection, making every class feel like a celebration of our culture.

I’m incredibly proud of how far Glow with R.O. Yoga has come. Starting a wellness business in South LA, especially a yoga studio, requires immense resilience and heart. The journey hasn’t been easy, but the unwavering support from my community has been my greatest motivation. Knowing that my work provides a safe space for our community to prioritize their health and well-being is what keeps me going, even through challenging times.

Entrepreneurship is rarely a smooth road, and I’ve had moments when I questioned if I could continue. But every challenge has been a lesson, teaching me more about myself, my students, my business, and the power of perseverance. I’ve come to understand that nothing truly worth having comes without effort, and it’s the effort that makes the journey so meaningful and rewarding.

If there’s one message I want to share with the Black and Brown community in LA and beyond, it’s this: there are spaces created just for you, where you can feel safe, cared for, and uplifted. Seek them out. Support them. As a solo entrepreneur, every bit of encouragement and love from the community makes an immeasurable difference.

What I do is so much more than yoga. It’s about creating a ripple effect of wellness, self-care, and empowerment for the community that deserves it most. Glow with R.O. Yoga isn’t just a business; it’s a testament to the power of representation, community, and resilience.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Whenever my best friend comes to town, it’s always a vibe! We usually grab food from Simply Wholesome, one of my absolute favorite places. If she’s here for a week, we’d probably eat there five out of the seven days because I love it that much. We’d also eat at Worldwide Tacos because they literally have the best tacos, and their menu is so unique.

Since I enjoy being outdoors and connecting with nature, we’d spend time at Playa Del Rey, Leimert Park, the Culver City Stairs, Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook, and Runyon Canyon. And of course: Glow with R.O. Yoga’s HipHop & R&B Yoga classes!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My yoga community deserves all the love and recognition. They’ve been my biggest cheerleaders and the reason I keep going. From helping me find spaces to host my classes, showing up consistently, recording and sharing moments on social media, bringing their friends and family, and reposting class flyers, they’ve done it all. Their support isn’t just about growing Glow with R.O. Yoga; it’s about the love, encouragement, and energy they pour into me and into each other. None of this would be possible without them, and I’m so grateful to have such an amazing community by my side.
