Meet Randy Cusick | Stand-up comedian

We had the good fortune of connecting with Randy Cusick and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Randy, why did you pursue a creative career?
It’s funny, cause I kinda stumbled upon it. I was scrolling through facebook, and a friend of mine posted that she was gonna venture into teaching comedy, and wanted to know if anyone was interested. I could always make people laugh, so I thought I could give it a shot. After our 2nd class, she informed me that I was gonna do a show. I had so much fear about going on stage. My hands were shaking, my heart was racing. It all went away the second I hit the stage, and I found my calling

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a recovering alcoholic, and I’ve done a lot of other stuff as well. I now have 18 years clean and sober. I take all my tragedies, such as homelessness, drug addiction, and being raised in a garage and make light of them. I try to write my comedy to be of service to my audience, so when I admit things on stage, maybe someone will hear it & not be afraid to ask for help

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would definitely bring him to one of my shows (I can book anytime) I would definitely have to take him to universal citi walk. Santa Monica pier, and a helicopter tour. I’m a former helicopter pilot, so I love flying, and the city is beautiful from above. My favorite place to eat is Joey’s in Woodland Hills. The food is spectacular, and the service is great. I also love Benihana with their food and showmanship. The doghaus has some really good burgers, & nothing beats in’n’out burgers

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Actually, I have a couple shoutouts. The first one is Paula Jane Newman for making me go on stage, & getting me out of my shell. Also, I would love to give a shoutout to Justin Foster, who taught me so many different techniques, and little tricks to help me bring my comedy to the next level
