We had the good fortune of connecting with Rasheeda Ellis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rasheeda, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The thought process behind starting my business was to create a lifestyle brand of products that would be considered an essential part of my customers daily routine that was exclusively available in local farmers markets and organic grocery stores. The very first product that we introduced to the market was the body balm candles that were clean enough to burn and use as a moisturizing body balm.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Although I still face challenges, life became a lot easier when I finally decided to step out on faith and travel to California to open an Apothecary. I knew that my friends and family wouldn’t support the idea because they weren’t able to see how it would work, so to avoid being discouraged I decided to keep it a secret until it was well established. The most challenging part of the journey was staying encouraged, starting a business is not easy and introducing a new brand in an already competitive market poses its own challenge. After building trust, customer loyalty came easy.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in Santa Monica so I would have breakfast at The Penthouse which is atop of the Huntley Hotel, we’d probably do some shopping in Venice then have lunch at The Neighbor.. More than likely we’d end the day at Geoffreys in Malibu if we couldn’t get a reservation at Nobu Malibu. Lol

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shout Out to “Raw Inspiration” for being such an amazing team and allowing me to about apart of there markets! My brand would not have been a success without them.
