We had the good fortune of connecting with Rashmi Schramm and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rashmi, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
I’m a mom of two teenage daughters.

The single most important thing I’ve done as a parent in terms of impact on my kids is making the decision to care for my whole self – mentally, physically and emotionally. I’ve made it a priority to create balance and harmony for myself and for others. I no longer accept past conditioning of toxic productivity at the cost of mental and emotional wellbeing, especially as a physician, coach and mom.

I’ve practiced medicine as a board certified family physician for 18 years and we tend to place an inordinate amount of attention to physical health and wellbeing. As physicians, we receive no training or help in caring for ourselves or others mentally and emotionally.

When I made the decision to step outside of this societal norm years ago, I was able to move from feeling burned out in every aspect of my life to feeling content and moving with purpose.

Now, I practice and teach meditation. I am a certified coach and have helped hundreds of clients move past burnout and into more joy and purpose in their lives.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am the founder and CEO of Optimal Wellness, Inc.

Optimal Wellness is a coaching and meditation teaching platform where I help busy professionals to tap into inner peace and power, so they live more energetic and purposeful lives. My mindset coaching is supercharged by meditation practices. I offer group programs in addition to highly limited 1 -1 coaching.

I founded my company in early 2020 – just before the pandemic hit.

My journey has definitely been challenging. I overcame many obstacles by embracing the discomfort I used to feel with marketing. I joined other physician entrepreneurs who are also doing amazing, non-traditional work and learned to stay uncomfortable so that I keep growing.

I have tripled my income in 2021 from 2020 and expect to continue this exponential growth into 2022.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live between Jacksonville and Saint Augustine, FL.

Places I would take my friend…

1. Little Talbot Island State Park. Just north of Jacksonville, this little gem of an island has it all…wide, sandy beaches, easy access parking, restrooms, pavilions for shade and miles of historic hiking trails that connect directly to the beach.

2. The Ritz at Amelia Island. This Ritz has a phenomenal outdoor deck overlooking the Atlantic with impeccable landscaping. It’s a great place for a drink and a stroll on the beach. Or, this is a great spot for a quick bite and a bike ride through miles of shaded trails on the island.

3. Saint Augustine historic district. So many shops and restaurants at the waterfront to keep us entertained all day.

4. Boat ride in Saint Augustine. We spend most weekends of the boat and we launch in Saint Augustine. We always catch dolphins at play and in the warmer months, love noodling around in the warm intracoastal water near the lighthouse.

5. Anastasia Island. Connected to downtown Saint Augustine, this is a great strip of land that houses some of our favorite restaurants and beaches.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
So many people have helped me and continue to help me along the way!

My parents are my original inspiration to live well and to embrace growth, the inner journey and to seek higher states of being a human.

My husband, Erich Schramm, who’s also a physician, is incredible with his never-ending support.

My business coach, Dr. Unachukwu, inspires and empowers me and countless others to practice medicine on our own terms.
