We had the good fortune of connecting with Rebecca Kovach and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rebecca, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think that I’ve grown more comfortable with taking risks and taking chances since I moved out to Los Angeles.

I think for a lot of us, we were taught that if we go to college and get a degree and find a career, that we would be locked in to a long-term career path, and there would be no need for drastic changes. Now it’s 2024, and since I moved to Los Angeles, I have found that couldn’t be less accurate.

I think that taking risks and big chances, which means starting over over and over again, is just the nature of being in a city and industry that is so full of opportunities, not to mention an industry that’s undergoing so many drastic changes. You have to take risks, and if you’re somebody like me, who wasn’t used to that, then you’ll want to learn to get comfortable with it.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think that now, maybe more than ever, this is an industry about rolling with the punches. I don’t know anyone in this industry who can say that it has been an easy journey.

That’s why I think it’s important to have a lot of resilience, and to remember to stay inspired and fulfilled outside of this tumultuous industry. I think it’s important to take healthy steps back away from the grind and find things that you love outside of monetary or artistic success. Not only is it perspective building, but I think it’s often a key being resilient in this industry.

I think a lot of people get an image of their mind when they think of resilience as gritting your teeth and wincing, suffering through the hard times, and I want to make sure to say that’s not what I mean. To me, resilience is about looking outside of my problems or current priorities and to recognize the world around me outside of myself. It can be really centering to remember that there is so much more in life than my current problem or current priority, and regardless of the outcome, life goes on, and I’ve got this.

I have many projects that I’d hoped I would get off the ground in five months, only to learn that they would more likely take around ten years. My attention span was not built for that type of wait time! However, I’ve also learned that patience is everything when you’re building a big life and trying to make big dreams come true.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a foodie, and I think one of the best things Los Angeles does is brunch! From Aroma Cafe in Studio City, with it’s gorgeous, cottage-like atmosphere an incredible cakes, to Blu Jam Cafe, which has the best brunch carbonara you can get in the city. I would say the kicker though has to be & Wallfes. I have never experienced a breakfast spot with so much incredible flavor. & Waffles’ chicken and waffles will change your brain chemistry, they are so delicious!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people who have inspired and uplifted me in my journey so far, including Shanon Berlin of Crooked Kitty Photography, my talented and inspiring family and friends, including Joe and Renee Kovach, Rachel and Hannah Kovach, Chia Chen, Sarah Daliva, Holly Fine, and Akiko Bae, and so many incredibly talented folks at the Brian Cutler Actor’s Studio.
