Meet Rebekah Kennedy | Actress

We had the good fortune of connecting with Rebekah Kennedy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rebekah, how do you think about risk?
Risk is definitely scary, but it’s also so important within our industry. Whether it’s putting yourself out there, contacting someone for help, moving across the country, or taking a risk within a role. I love the saying ‘nothing ventured nothing gained’ because it’s so true. You will never know what could be unless you try.
For me a big risk was moving from Texas to California. My husband and I left behind all of our family and friends to move to a city where I only knew a few people. It was terrifying at the time. I had no idea if it would work out, if we would hate it, or if it was going to be worth it. But the only way to jump is to just jump. I’m so thankful we took the leap – not that it’s been easy. Anything but, really. But worth it? Absolutely. I’ve met some incredible friends, (many who are like family now) fantastic filmmakers, had some really amazing opportunities, and I really love the life we have created here. I’m so thankful for the support I’ve had along the way. You will never know if the risk will be worth taking, but you will also never know unless you step into the unknown. There’s so many beautiful things waiting there.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started acting at a young age in theatre, but back then I never imagined myself doing film and tv. It’s been an amazing adventure, but it’s been far from easy. The only thing I really know how to do is not give up. To just keep going. You never know what projects or roles will be waiting around the corner for you. They always seem to come at just the perfect time too. I’m really proud of so many of the projects I’ve gotten to be a part of. Being a part of Law & Order SVU will always be so special to me because I loved the role of Esther so much. The fans have always been so incredibly supportive and that has been so amazing. Station 19 was also a really fantastic experience as I got to play a totally different kind of role and the cast and crew on that show were also so kind and encouraging. Playing the witch Masha in Two Witches was particularly challenging in the best way. I really go to stretch myself and go to places I hadn’t quite gone before. It’s so fun for the audiences to see you in an unexpected ways.
I think some of lessons I’ve learned along the way are really about persistence, patience, and believing in yourself. It feels silly to say, but if you don’t believe in yourself, how do you expect anyone else to? I think I’ve gotten to where I am by staying persistent, continuing to train and stay in class, always working on my craft, not giving up, celebrating the wins, and not giving up on myself as well.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, if they’ve never been to L.A., then you have to do some of the big tourist spots. Like hitting up Hollywood Blvd, the Chinese Theater, Griffith Observatory, and Universal City Walk. I love theme parks so we can visit Universal Studios and Disneyland. Those are always big hits! Or even Six Flags if they love big rollercoasters. Santa Monica Pier is always pretty, especially at night. If they like baseball, going to a Dodgers game is always fun! There’s so many great places to eat and drink. Din Tai Fung is one of my favorites for soup dumplings. We gotta stop by Pinks for a famous hot dog. Osteria Mozza is a great choice for Italian food. Firefly is a perfect spot for The Secret Garden vibes and the food is delicious. Catch LA is one of the best spots for outside dining as the views are beautiful. And if you’re in the mood for some french food that you can share – The Little Door is perfect.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would definitely love to give a shout out to my husband, Brandon. When I first mentioned moving to Los Angeles, he didn’t even hesitate. He was just fully in from the beginning. We moved in about a month and it was a whirlwind. But he’s never doubted me. He continues to encourage me and support me. He really deserves so much recognition as I wouldn’t be here without him. He also works hard in his own right for his own career and his work ethic and determination is so inspiring.
