We had the good fortune of connecting with Re’Nal Glover and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Re’Nal, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My sister and I were reflecting on our experiences as black women in beauty supply stores and beauty retailers. At the big ticket retailers, the employees are often not well versed enough in our skin and cosmetic concerns which leads to wasting money on products that don’t meet our needs. The neighborhood beauty supplies (mainly patronized by black people) are usually not black-owned and tend to foster a hostile shopping experience. The owners tend to assume their customers are thieves and treat them as such from the entrance. There is no where that welcomes us and is dedicated to helping us.

That’s where Mela-Glō Beauty comes in. We are the premier black-owned Online Beauty Retailer. Although we are online (for now *wink wink*), we aim to provide the best quality products along with the knowledge to use them successfully. We want our customers to feel seen and valued.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Mela-Glō is my full time gig but my second love is content creation. In 2021, I started an Instagram page (@fitlikere_vsg) to document my weightloss journey (157lbs down). I had no idea that it would turn into a beautiful community of people I get to inspire and help everyday. From fashion, to cooking, to words of inspiration, you’ll find it all on my page. I have so many talents/strengths so I love that I get to share them with the world.

Fashion is another love of mine. I have a degree in Fashion Design from FIDM which got me super interested in fashion styling. Whether you need a wardrobe makeover or a single look for an event, I’m your girl!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If we’re talking a weeknight outside the city, I’m hitting up The Chicken Koop in Alhambra, CA. Great drinks, food, music, and free parking.

If you want to ball out with a view, I’m heading to Castaway in Burbank,CA. The food and drinks are delicious but that view is *chef’s kiss *. Get a table outside so you can eat while taking in a mountain top view of the entire city. I love it!

If you’re looking for a more casual night of fun check out the Arts District. They have some great bars out there. I love grabbing a drink then heading to play arcade games at EightyTwo.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family is just as much apart of Mela-Glō as I am. In fact, they’re my business partners! Without their support and teamwork I don’t know where Mela-Glō would be. I love that we get to do this together.
