We had the good fortune of connecting with Renato Fimene and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Renato, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Preparation. As I have always been very curious since I was a child, I am constantly improving myself, seeking the unknown, and giving structure to each new step. I confess that it is not as linear as we often expect and that it requires patience but preparing myself and having an avid eye for human matter gives me an artistic perspective with great care and technique. Also, I consume a lot of art in books, films, series, exhibitions, and plays and have a traveler’s gaze, hungry for every new millimeter experienced. I’ve learned in recent years that I must be my biggest spectator. This taught me to respect myself as a person and my artistic life path and, above all, to understand that I am the sum of all my experiences and this is reflected in the work that I do.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
In 2007, I embarked on a journey into the world of acting back in Brazil, driven by a passion for storytelling and the desire to bring characters to life on the stage or screen. The glitz and glamour of the acting world often overshadow the immense effort and resilience required behind the scenes. Auditions, rejections, and the constant pursuit of roles made the journey far from easy. Each casting call brought both excitement and anxiety, and the competition was fierce. It was a rollercoaster of emotions, but I was determined to overcome the challenges that came my way.

The early years tested my patience and dedication. I faced numerous setbacks, but each rejection became a stepping stone for personal and professional growth. It wasn’t just about memorizing lines or perfecting performances; it was about cultivating resilience and learning to embrace the inevitable ups and downs of the industry.

One of the most valuable lessons I learned was the importance of perseverance. Success in acting, as in any creative field, often requires a combination of talent, hard work, and an unwavering commitment to one’s craft. The ability to bounce back from disappointments and keep honing my skills became a fundamental part of my journey. Through the years, I discovered the power of continuous learning. Every role, whether big or small, brought with it an opportunity to evolve as an actor. I embraced the diversity of characters, genres, and styles, each contributing to my growth as a versatile performer.

As I reflect on my journey from 2007 to the present, I can confidently say that the challenges I faced were instrumental in shaping the actor I am today. The grit developed during the tough times and the lessons learned from both successes and failures have become the foundation of my craft.

So, while the glamorous facade of acting may make it seem like a breeze, the reality is a journey filled with trials and triumphs. It’s the willingness to navigate through the challenges, coupled with a passion for the art, that transforms the dream of being an actor into a fulfilling reality.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would start the day with a hearty breakfast at a local spot known for its delicious options, and visit iconic landmarks, famous museums, or architectural wonders. Explore at our own pace, have dinner at a great restaurant in the heart of the city, and experience the city’s nightlife by checking out a popular bar or lounge. Take a morning hike or nature walk in a nearby park or nature reserve, enjoy lunch or try a local food truck, explore outdoor activities, and have dinner at a waterside restaurant with a beautiful view of the sunset. Visit local markets or art galleries to experience the city’s culture. Attend a matinee show at a local theater or catch a performance at a live music venue.

I would wrap up the trip with a farewell coffee at a cozy café bringing to our itinerary a mix of cultural experiences, outdoor adventures, relaxation, and local cuisine to ensure a memorable and diverse week. And like a good Brazilian, make sure we meet a lot of people along this itinerary.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
A huge shoutout to the Sao Paulo School of Dramatic Art (EAD/ECA/USP). Artistic cradle of Latin America, fundamental to the culture of the Brazilian people. The place that trained and trains artists who helped and still help in the construction of a Brazilian artistic memory and who have increasingly played over the world with their art. To each teacher who passed on their knowledge to me, who had a loving look at my discoveries, and who played a fundamental role in my artistic structuring. And to each professional colleague, I had the opportunity to cross paths with and build the best experiences. All of these deserve big credit and recognition in my story.
