Meet Renee Saulney | Master Crafter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Renee Saulney and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Renee, what do you attribute your success to?
Have fun. When I’m enjoying what I’m doing, the creativity seems to flow

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I consider myself a crafter. I’ve always made things, ever since middle school when back in my day we had home economics where you were taught sewing and cooking.. I use to make all my clothes which evolved in to me sewing for others. Then it was on to brides maid dresses and prom dresses. I found this to be no fun. To restrictive. Then I evolved into making household goods. Bedspreads, pillows and towel sets. Since retiring 5 years ago my talent and imagination has gone through the roof. Still making clothing, but wearable art type of clothing, quilts and my biggest sale item to date are dolls.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would go to concerts, art museums, crafts shows is a must for me. As far as eating and drinking, I’m a backyard barbecue type of person. I host a Taco Tuesday at least once a month. I’m also open to exploring international food type of restaurants. Food I wouldn’t cook at home

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
A special shoutout to my Mother who always let me be me. She had no knowledge of sewing, but provided me with the tools to do what I do. Working in the homes of Beverly Hills she was familiar with the Home Silk Shop and International Silks And Woolens, these were shops adjacent to Beverly Hills. We didn’t know anything about the Downtown Fabric District at the time. She purchased my first sewing machine at the Los Angeles County Fair without knowing this would one day be one of my greatest passions. She saw something in me I didn’t even know was there. Thank you Mommy!!!!!
