Meet Revaz-Giorgi Arveladze | Author/ Director/ Video Editor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Revaz-Giorgi Arveladze and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Revaz-Giorgi, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
It’s not difficult to tell when something is working or not. Usually, I keep at something until I’ve genuinely confirmed that the project in question is not worth it continuing as it is burning up more resources without a proper turnaround.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve had a very interesting career in the arts, as well as a very diverse one. However, one big commonality between all of my “professions” is being a storyteller. I’ve published a book called Tales From Kartli, a bi-lingual piece about my country, and I’ve taken my writing skills to the film industry as well.
I’ve often heard that the story (in the film) is written three times. Once as a script, then during production involving all the on-the-spot changes it encapsulates, and finally in the editing room during post-production. While it took time and effort, I’m happy to say that I’m someone who is able to do all three for one singular, and separate project. I write, direct and edit my own films, and while it’s a grueling process that usually makes you want to walk through a solid wall, it’s well worth it because it teaches you the ins and outs of how a story functions visually, and on paper. In fact, while I was living in America, I specialized in taking old short films and reworking them based on the material that was shot. I’ve often consulted international students during the screenwriting process, and I’ve coached many of my actor friends back home who were switching to directing. Getting to a point where I could easily alternate between these “forms” of storytelling was difficult and nerve-wracking, but I believe the results speak for themselves. In fact, that is exactly what I want people to know about my brand – that when it comes to the story, I can always lend a hand and offer guidance.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Any fun trip contains three of the following elements – Relaxation, Education, and Excitement. and If you can combine all three then that’s the best-case scenario. Luckily, my country is steeped in history, and most of the historical destinations, landmarks, holidays, and villages all involve a bit of education, relaxation, and excitement, usually in the form of good food, dancing, and drinking.
if it’s a week-long trip especially, I’d get the museums and such out of the way during the early day, and then I’d take them to my favorite parts of town, where I usually hang out with my close friends. Once they’ve acclimated to the rhythm, we’d probably go out of town so they could witness the beautiful countryside!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’ve recently published an anthology horror book reimagining the mythical beings of my country. For this, I want to credit my family first of all because they recognized my penchant for the arts early on, my friends, who inspired me to imbue my stories with believable characters, and my country for having the vast history and culture that allowed to draw inspiration.
And well, of course, I want to thank my friends at Palitra L, the publishing company who gave me a shot at sharing my stories with others!
