We had the good fortune of connecting with Rex Bridgeforth and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rex, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success is that I never quit. Even when it seemed like my business wasn’t growing and I was losing money. One thing that helped was surrounding my self with friends who had similar goals as me. We were able to keep each other accountable and learn from each others missteps and successes.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
In the beginning I was making little to no money. I was only filming small projects for friends and family. Working a soul sucking 9 to 5 in a cubicle and filming whatever I could on the weekends. A friend of mine who was a wedding photographer saw some of the video shorts I made and she asked me if I would be interested in filming weddings. At that time I may have attended maybe 4 weddings in my life, but I was certainly interested. She had a wedding she was photographing coming up and the couple were looking for a videographer. She connected me with the couple and I offered to film their wedding for free and if she liked what I put together they can purchase the video. Fortunately they loved the video and I got paid! But not only did I get paid I had so much fun doing it. I started making marketing material from the footage I captured at the wedding. Trying my best to make this one wedding look like 4 different weddings. It was very difficult in the beginning because I didn’t have much of a portfolio to attract more clients, but eventually 1 turned into 2 and 2 turned into 3. Now I have about 200 weddings under my belt and i’m able to do filmmaking full time.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Take a trip to Venice Beach, and then to a tapping of The Price is Right. As far as food we would definitely eat at Pete’s Breakfast House in Ventura and Rice By Mama for lunch or dinner.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people that helped and encouraged me along the way. Nessa from Old Soul Photography was maybe the first people I met who was doing photography full time. She helped me get my start by connecting me with my first client and put me on the path i’m on now. I also want to shoutout Andrew Mori from Amori Photography. He really took me under his wing and shared a lot of his business knowledge with me. He mentored me in the beginning and we are still business partners to this day. We own a photography/video studio in Camarillo.
