We had the good fortune of connecting with Rez McKinney Jr and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rez, what do you want your legacy to be?
I believe legacies are defined by consistency, precision and longevity. I want my legacy to be defined as a revolutionary transmedia artist that made undeniably great timeless art. I want people to remember that I never rushed my creative process and that each product I will and have ever create is thought out with intention to convey a deeper message. I want the world to not only see my art, but not be able to help but feel it. I want people to know that I was a true artist at heart rather it was music, acting or creative direction.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m most excited about releasing my first album ‘Paradise Falls 2’ this fall. The factor that immediately sets this body of work apart is the versatility track by track & the sound design. We wanted to make the audience feel like they were experiencing the album as the story continues instead of listening. As the intro track rolls in you hear the sound of the waves insinuating that we are on a beach. In the first 3 minutes of listening to the album it takes you on a ride as it includes the thesis statement of the story of Paradise Falls & gives you a glimpse of whats to come.
It took alot of trial and error to get where I am today professionally. It took countless nights in the studio just having fun making music but like most things, the more time you put into an activity the better you become. Eventually it just clicked, after starting in Fall 2019 we finally found what we feel like is THE sound I had been relentlessly all those nights in 2022 & we plan to share that with the world this fall. Along the way it was alot of mental battles i fought along the way as I’m sure most artists have. But I’ve come to learn that you have to experience the lows before the highs and that it is all apart of the process that will prepare you for where you want to be. Nothing about being an artist is easy, sometimes you have to be a little delusional and believe in yourself even when no one else because not everyone will see your vision, because it is YOUR vision on who you can become.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I enjoy time out in nature, id most likely take them to see the scenery and land scape of Southern California for foremost. Starting with the beach, hiking trails and even show them the cities. When it comes to night life theres plenty of clubs and rooftop bars from Hollywood to LA that i would recommend based off of their music & vibe preference. Places like Hyde, Nightingale, Bar Lis, Mama’s Shelter and many more around LA.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shout out my Label BxE Records, my videographer Veli Vision & my Engineer & Producer(s) Anton The Producer they have all played a vital roll in helping me get to where have helped me get to where I am today.
