Meet Rian Cult: Artist, Songwriter, Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Rian Cult and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rian, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
“We create the reality that we want” is such a deep yet simple quote that I try to remember everyday. To me it simply means that all the power is in our hands and we have to choose what to do with it, if we want to be happy, we have to make it happen, if we want to be sad, we have to do it ourselves, and all the things around us are just an interpretation of how we choose to see the world. Of course there are things around us that happen and we can’t change them or we can’t fight them but we can always choose how we react to them and how we let them affect us on the long run.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I like to think of myself as an adventurer, both artistically and in my daily life. I like to experiment. Whenever I make a new song I ask myself: “what are the listeners expecting to happen in this song?” and then I do the complete opposite, I think eventually this will draw some attention to my music. It’s never easy to do what you love, because you have expectations and you run out of patience sometimes, so most days I learn a new way to keep myself on track, cause like every worthy thing in life, it will take patience and time. If there’s one thing i’d love the world to know about my story is that i’ve heard and still hear more “no’s” and “you can’t do it”, and yet it hasn’t stopped me for not even a second from enjoying this crazy journey.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Being born in Romania and having travelled for so long I have so many places around the world that i’d love to take my friend, but i’ll limit myself to LA and Romania. I was born on the seaside so the ocean/sea has always been something I am drawn to, it’s my quiet place, so somewhere along Santa Monica beach and pier on an early morning would be just lovely. However, if we were visiting Romania, we’d probably take a hike through the mountains near Brasov, it’s just a splendid sense of being close to nature and history. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’m most grateful for the people in my life who never hesitate to guide me and take time out of their day to check up on me and make sure i’m doing ok, all my mentors and teachers from Berklee College of Music and all the artists i’ve worked with that eventually became family.
