We had the good fortune of connecting with Rianne Vestuto and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rianne, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued an artistic path, because honestly, I don’t know what worse i possible could do! From a young age, I was always really creative- imagining music videos in my head for every song I heard, putting on elaborate performances for my family (where I was always in charge of costumes, hair, makeup and choreography,) and I also had an uncanny ability to turn any hand me down into an awesome fashion statement that had my school buzzing. I couldn’t not be creative, and that inner fire taught me to embrace my weirdness, and which I feel was training for creating my own career. Being in my creative expression feels like home to me. As a very intuitive and creative spirit, I would feel incredibly displaced, confused, and even depressed if I wasn’t being creative. It’s an inner fire that needs to be expressed. But I was always was told that a successful creative career was basically impossible, and that my skills were not going to make me any money, which caused inner conflict about if I could actually pursue my art. Knowing myself, and what my gifts are, have been so important to keeping me on my path. My gift is to heal through creating beauty- with energy and art. From this place of self assurance, I have a very distinct aesthetic and vision that people easily recognize. It took me a long time to realize what an asset this is, and have to constantly remind myself this in a world that doesn’t always value art. But I strongly believe if you are gifted with a creative spirit, you have to honor it. Worship it. Creativity is a sacred expression of the divine, (whatever divine means to you,) which means it is important that every creative person on the planet realizes they are a gift. Knowing this, that the world needs me to activate and share my creative expression, has helped me overcome limiting beliefs and pursue my creative career wholeheartedly.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Aura Toning is a unique movement practice I created after over a decade of accumulated study and experience in embodied movement/healing arts. As a highly empathic person, I needed a way to reclaim my energy in all sheaths of my body- body, mind, and spirit. This is how Aura Toning was born. Through this creation, i am able to define where I end and the people around me begin, reclaim my essence, embrace my extreme sensitivity, and ground into my light, all while having an amazing time moving my body. It was born through my own unique was of self-healing. The term refers to toning our auras, or energies, just as we tone our muscles and minds. This was born out a need to integrate a truly holistic practice into self care that addresses the mind, body, heart, spirit, and energetic body. It was also born out of a need for subtle yet powerful practice for empaths to declare energetic boundaries in a way that aligned with their divine feminine nature. The divine feminine aura is very enveloping, like the ocean. It is its own entity, but is very inviting, warm and welcoming. This is the essence of the divine feminine, and I was frustrated about the way energetic boundaries are portrayed in the new age/spirituality world, because it all felt very masculine to me. So I created a practice that helps folks claim sovereignty over their aura/energetic space, without blocking the flow of their divine feminine. I offer this through unique movement classes, counseling, and channeled artwork. One of my most popular offerings is Medicine Paintings, which are customized piece of sacred artwork where I do a shamanic journey to retrieve a spirit guide for the client, and create a painting reflecting that journey and the medicine we uncovered. I receive messages of crystals to use, (which are infused into the paint water,) mantras for the client to say each day as the painting is being completed (which are written under the paint) and spirit guides that will watch over them (which are the subject of the art.) The end result is a finished painting- a sacred talisman for the client to have infusing light into their home or work space. All of my offerings are inspired by the fierce beauty of Mother Nature, and are here to help you uncover, reclaim, and rewild your beautiful inner nature. These offerings are labors of love because they were completely born of my own healing journey, and looking deep inside the ancientness of my own spirit for my own medicine to heal myself. And I always knew that I was learning to heal myself so that I could bring this wisdom forward to help others fall deeply in love with their spirit and walk this beauty path. Check out auratoning.com to learn more about Aura Toning, Medicine Paintings, Divine Femme counseling, and my twice yearly intensive workshop: Yoga for Witches, which all help you come home to your expression of divine feminine power. *when I speak about the divine feminine, I am not referring to gender, but to the innate polarity that exists in all things- yin/yang, giving/receiving, etc. I help both women, men, and all beings uncover and express their divine feminine, because it is suppressed in all humans due to an imbalance in our society.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Two words- Cafe Gratitude. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The sacred lands of Maui, the Topanga Canyon, and Central Park in New York. Jonathan Hammond and Domenic Savino, who are guides and mentors to me, and have also become soul family. I would not have made it to this point without their brilliance, mentorship and love. Other mentors to thank: Shiva Rea, Diana Lang, Deborah Hanekamp, Erin Pace, and Colleen Saidman Yee Friends: I am blessed with amazing friends all over the world, but would like to give a shout out in particular to Ashley River Brant, Lotem Porat, Danni Siminerio, and Alexandra Copp- these incredible women are all in different parts of the world, but are all soul sisters. Also Andrew Pyo and Billy Abajian who always help me stay light hearted and grounded. Music: Stevie Nicks, Dolly Parton, Trevor Hall, Crystal Tones, and the Reiki Whale album by Kamal Books: Women Who Run with the Wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estes The Shaman’s Mind by Jonathan Hammond
