We had the good fortune of connecting with ricardo araya and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi ricardo, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?

That journey started a very long time ago. My search for form and art started when I was 8 years old with my mom. As a boy, my mom took me to her ateliers every day, and for some reason, I was only interested in drawing houses. At the age of 18, I created a design company dedicated to computer furniture while studying at university. Eight years later, I decided to start my business in Los Angeles (1986).

In addition to all that, I have a deep-rooted love for painting, art, and reading about architectural history throughout my life.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

My academic background encompasses studies in International Design, Architecture, and Business Administration and an exploration of RPG programming at IBM. I possess skills in tools like AutoCAD and Sketchup, enabling me to execute highly complex projects with precision and dedication. I’m committed to staying at the forefront of cutting-edge practices, particularly in sustainable architecture and passive solar design. I’m not just an architectural designer; I see myself as a builder of legacies and a transformer of communities. My vision, passion, and technical skills have established me as a true leader in my field, continuously shaping a more inspiring and functional future.

In recent years, I have brought my vision to life through the founding of Araya Studio, we specializes in drafting services and offers comprehensive solutions in engineering. Our strong vision and unwavering commitment ensure client satisfaction through meticulous attention to detail and dedication to our work.

As the founder and senior designer of Araya Studio, my primary focus is on providing top-notch blueprints for all architectural and construction needs, including ADUs, garage conversions, and SB9. We pride ourselves on being versatile and dedicated to assisting clients in making the best decisions for their projects and investments. Customer satisfaction remains our top priority. Araya Studio is not just a company; it’s a commitment to innovation, functionality, and creating a lasting impact in the world of architecture and design. For me, it is very important to design dwellings that meet the diverse needs of all people. At this moment, I am passionate about the New Housing Laws in California and I am happy to help and to be part of all this.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Of course, a place we can’t miss is Pasadena, with good food and a lot of history. We can also go to the Moca museum, take a trip to Solvang to enjoy a nice scenic highway and taste good wine, and then go to Calico on the last day.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

Thanks to my mom, I decided to move to LA and start my new life in 1986. However, things didn’t go well until almost 7 years later. Well, I think it’s part of growing up. After the Northridge earthquake, everything changed for the better. In addition to my work as a construction permit expediter, I’ve brought my expertise to bear on designing mechanical plans, also contributing to the realization of large-scale projects like the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas and the Hotel Beau Rivage in Mississippi back in 1997. What a journey!

In reality, nothing in my life has been easy. No one has given me anything; I have earned everything after many years of effort and dedication.
