We had the good fortune of connecting with Richard Black and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Richard, how do you think about risk?
Taking risks is arguably the most important component of living a full life; without risk there’s no chance of gain, you always need to jump beyond yourself.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Writing music and lyrics it’s really just a soundboard of your life. There’s a lot of sacrifice that goes into this sort of career because other more earthly responsibilities have to be set aside so you have to be dedicated you have to be prolific you have to be and disciplined. These are difficult attributes to maintain in this genre of music art. Be prepared for the long-haul.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I Currently reside in California near the ocean so an ocean trip would be essential and a drive of the beautiful highway 1 along the coast. Even though there’s not really much to see but most visitors really would like to see Hollywood and the sunset strip and I would begrudgingly take them there, but on the way there we stop at one of the many delicious Mexican food restaurants then we take a trip up into the nearby mountains set up camp have some drinks and some deep conversation.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Spirituality is the most important to me so the top of my list would be God of course second would be my earthly partners all the other talented musicians that I have had the honor to work with the stand out for me would be Spencer Sercombe the guitarist I wrote with for the most formidable years of my life
