We had the good fortune of connecting with Richard Pink and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Richard, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I am Richard Pink, Co-Owner of Pink’s Hot Dogs. I was born into the Pnk’s Pink’s Hot Dog business. I grew up with the business while my parents ran Pink’s. I inherited the business. Priior Prior to inheriting the business iI was responsible for the management of shopping centers as a real estate professional. This This experience taught me the importance of various aspects of the retail business including the importance of friendly service, attractive atmosphere, quality and consistency of the food, marketing of the brand, and morale and longevity of the employees. I applied these principles to Pink’s when my wife, sister and iI took over Pink’s. Further, as a student I earned a B.S in business, and MBA in business and a law degree. This education provided the basis for many decision affectiing affecting the economic operation of the business . Now that Pink’s is 85 years old, and still family run and operated, we are proud of the fact that Pink’s is still successful as judged by the consistency of the sales volume and the fact that high quality licensees have expanded Pink’s to various locations.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

My career started when i graduated from law school. I worked in various executive areas of real estate over a 45 year career. I became involved with the operation of Pink’s in 1986 when my wife took over the operation of Pink’s. My wife was responsible for staffing, staff management and marketing. My job was menu creation and licensing. I was able to do this work at Pink’s while still working as a real estate executive. My hours were very long includi ng including weekends.

I give credit to my parents who founded Pink’s and purchased the property in 1941 that allowed Pink’s to avoid having a landlord who could continue to raise rent or evict Pink’s for another use. I give credit to my wife, Gloria Pink, who left teaching in 1986 to take over Pink’s when my parents were too old to run Pink’s. Gloria ran Pink’s for 30 years. I give credit to the experience i I had in the real estate business that transferred to Pink’s. I give credit to the manay many employees at Pink’s who have worked at Pink’s for over 20 years. I give credit to the hot dog and chili vendors who have provided high quality food for approximately 85 years.
