We had the good fortune of connecting with Richon Martená and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Richon, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
Taking pictures and being a model isn’t as easy as it seems. It involves being aware of everything muscle and hair from the crown of your head down to your toes. All while, holding various expressions and making sure your body carries the same energy. It’s an intense mental workout. Far from easy.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart as a model is the fact that I am a creative director as well. My ideas are well thought out and very eye catching. My art has spoken for me and opened doors that I couldn’t even dream of. I also do model coaching/uplifting and have various products available to help aspiring models start and further themselves in this world.
I am where I am professionally by sheer determination and an outrageous belief that I’m meant to model and make noise in the Industry. Being freelance is an ongoing struggle, not having the reach and or representation with big brands and household names. It makes the journey long but has motivated me to work harder and consistently show that agency or not I belong and I am amazing.
An important lesson I’ve learned along the way is to truly love yourself and be unwavering in what you want. A lot of people can try to force their beliefs on you and give opinions about what you look like, which can really be unhealthy. You have to get to a place where you are unwavering and make decisions for yourself. Your happiness is important.
I want the world to know that Richon Martená is the name of a supermodel who didn’t give up and a brand that stands for cultivating the greatness inside of others.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We’d definitely go hiking that’s a must. Then we’d make our way to little Tokyo and the art district. For some history and culture. Eat at Soho house and go shopping at Webster. A little bit of everything.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Steve White and Keisha Roper. Steve White is a photographer and Keisha Roper is a makeup artist. Both have greatly contributed to helping me bring my creative ideas to life. My modeling portfolio is filled with their work. I’m so grateful for them.
