We had the good fortune of connecting with Rick Frausto and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rick, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
Highlighting the intersection between climate crisis and social justice. Marginalized communities, minorities, and those with disadvantages in life are most impacted by the effects of climate change, while those who hold the most power to create sustainable change (the corporations) are draining and commodifying our natural resources. In the process, they’re producing the most pollution/highest carbon footprint through the processing and marketing of those resources.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The intention behind my work is to raise up voices that need to be heard in hopes of creating positive and lasting change for humans and the planet. Nothing worth doing is ever easy, but if you love and believe in what you do, the challenges become small in comparison to the fulfillment found when following your heart.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
A day trip to the South Bay. First stop, the Korean Friendship Bell in San Pedro, then on to the Palos Verdes Peninsula for a hike down to the beach to take in the wild beauty along the shoreline. A stop at the Wayfarers Chapel (otherwise known as the glass chapel) is not to be missed. It was designed by Lloyd Wright (Frank Lloyd Wright’s son) and is known for its unique organic architecture that blends in with the landscape and is perched on a hillside above the Pacific ocean.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My wife has been my number one supporter and advocate. In addition to being my partner in life, she’s also my partner in business. She manages everything behind the scenes so that I can continue creating the art and getting my message out into the world.
