We had the good fortune of connecting with Rickie Dewayne and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rickie, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I honestly didn’t have a thought process behind starting my own business because I never looked at myself becoming a cosmetologist as me being my own business. I knew I would wanted to work for myself but I’d always looked at being a Hairstylist as working in a salon under someone else’s name being part of a team. It took a few years in the industry to realize that I could build my own brand as myself.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a cosmetologist of 14 years. I am a Custom Wig Maker and an all around Healthy Hair Care specialist. I enjoy the science of the hair, scalp and proper installation of extensions. Extensions play a huge part in my business. I use Extensions to give your natural hair a break from the wear and tear of color, heat, and daily routines while still giving the most naturally blended installs. Caring for the hair of your guest and how different services will affect the health of their hair is the most critical lesson I’ve learned thus far. As a professional, teaching my guests how to care for their hair, choose extensions, and even know their allergies when they aren’t in my presence is key. I’ve learned that you can be the most amazing stylist but if my clients walk away without any knowledge of how to treat their own hair, I hadn’t done my job.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m a pretty adventurous person so Im all about outdoors activities to see the gorgeous scenery while getting my fitness on! I’m a huge fan of experiencing the tourist attractions because I don’t take the time to visit until guests are visiting. I have a few favorite restaurants that I’d recommend to check out… Vurger Guyz & Naturewell Juice Bar are a must try in my opinion.
