We had the good fortune of connecting with Robert Reed and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Robert, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Most people think that being a hairstylist is an easy job but have no idea how demanding this profession can be.

Being a hairstylist is emotionally draining as every customer wants to share their whole life (good and bad) within the time they spend in their hairstylist’s chair. Most hairstylists are very empathetic, so they feel drained at the end of the day.

Physically, being a hairstylist is very demanding upon the body. Standing many hours every day on a hard surface, rotating their wrists, arms and shoulders is highly challenging and many hairstylists suffer repetitive motion injuries.

What should our readers know about your business?
I started my business to help hair stylists enjoy their career by avoiding repetitive motion injury by understanding the relationship between their bodies, workplace and tools. I began working with multi-salon location owners and worker’s compensation companies by developing training programs to avoid accidents and injury in the salon.

This led to a program I developed, funded by the insurance company to provide hair stylists with the tools and training to keep on doing what they love, making people look and feel better through their time in the stylist’ chair without falling prey to avoidable injury.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
LA offers a lot to visitors, which would include museum visits (all of the Getty’s are great) and enjoying the wide assortment of incredible eating places.

While my taste’s are varied, I am known for never meeting a taco that I didn’t like.

Don’t miss out on the delectable pastrami at Langer’s, a real institution here in SoCal.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I began my business with the encouragement and support of my wife, Marlene. Through our 30 years in business, we have, mostly by coincidental meetings, added to our business family.

In my 50 years in the beauty industry, I am thankful to have had several great mentors, including Don Sullivan, Vidal Sassoon and Jheri Redding, all considered beauty industry legends.

I am proud to be a board member of Cosmetologists Chicago and America’s Beauty show, both with a 100 year history of supporting hair stylists and beauty professionals.
