Meet Robot Koch: Composer, Music Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Robot Koch and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Robot, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
I used to be all about doing. Over time I learned it`s also about just being. Meditation helped me, as well as getting a good sleep routine, yoga, etc. I learned that resting and self-care are just as important for my work as the working part itself. I have better ideas when I`m more rested and grounded. A day in nature can spark an idea that can be a breakthrough in my work process. So I consciously include things that I deemed to be lazy in my daily routine and find that I`m even more prolific because of that. rest is part of work, I think my career has always been a steady slow burn on a low flame, rather than one overheated rocket launch moment. I’m in it for the long haul and I think this way is more sustainable. I sometimes think I took the long way on purpose subconsciously, it´s a lot more beautiful and I get to take the time to stop and smell the flowers along the way.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I´m a composer/producer in the realm of ambient/modern classical/electronic music. My music has been licensed for film and tv a lot lately. The BBC called it “Sounds like artificial intelligence discovering religion” which is a nod towards the fact that it`s somehow mystical and futuristic.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I`d do a road trip with that person. starting with a few days in LA and then head up the coast to Big Sur. eat along the way. stop in Santa Barbara, Carmel, and go up to SF and further north to the lost coast. I love being in nature in California. On our way back we`d make a detour and go to palm springs and Joshua Tree.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shout out my friend Fiora, who inspired me to move to LA. We work on the music project Dreaming Of Ghosts together and through her, I also met Savannah Jo Lack. She is another incredible being I`m fortunate enough to make music with. It`s all about these creative connections and synchronicities. Also shouts to Brendan Angelides, a good friend, and great composer, and an overall inspiring human being. There are so many people to shout out, so these are just examples. Grateful for all of you. You know who you are.
