We had the good fortune of connecting with Robyn Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Robyn, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My process is experience based. I’m a dancer first, vocalist second, and songwriter third. All of my experiences from college to traveling the world as an entertainer to even my own life experiences in relationship and business have lead me to the brand I’ve created for myself the artist RBYN.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
– what sets me apart from other artists is my story. I’m an advocate for all marginalized groups. I’m a woman of God. And a sexy sultry songstress who writes about mental health, relationships, and hopefulness.

– I’m most excited about my upcoming Album “Buried Treasure.” It is my most honest and heart felt project to date. It’s scary to be this vulnerable and that’s a crazy way to feel like I’m on the right track.

– i grew up training in most major forms of dance. I graduated from Orange Coast College doing dance performances and musical theatre. While auditioning in LA i got a chance to perform for a cover band company that had me performing 6 nights a week , 14 months at a time. That’s the bulk of where I get my stage presence from. The last 8 years I’ve been gigging locally throughout the Bay Area cultivating a more authentic version of my vocal and live performance. Now I can say honestly i am the artist RBYN.
– confidence has always been an issue. Stage freight was a result a lack of self belief. Also not having a habit of practicing held me back. That was developed over seas though.

– some of the lessons I’ve learned were: practice undistracted 3-5 hours a day if you wanna be great, meditate to know who you really are, figure out how much your worth by gigging and talking to venue owners and promotors, you’re only as good as your team, be patient and keep at it good things truly come to those know how to wait.

– I want the world to see me and what I do on stage and in my music and feel free enough to go after what is on their heart. I want to be sexy without compromising my dignity and self respect. I want to be a part of buikding a community that respects disability awareness, the importance of sisterhood, education, unity, and passion. I want them to see my logo and think of peace and strength and love.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my bestie was in town I’d take them to the Chase Center to watch a warriors game. Take them to Ayesha Curry’s restaurant in San Francisco after and hope to find a great artist at one of the many great venues in the Bay Area.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d love to shout my parents Ron and Kim Jackson for always being a stable foundation and wealth of support. I’d like to thank my sister Krystina for being my role model and greatest cheerleader. My other sister Krystal for inspiring me to sing in the first being the amazing rock star she is. My brother Richard for being my first producer/engineer and inspiring me to become a recording artist. To my dance and performing arts mentors throughout the years for training and molding me into the artist that I am today. And to the countless friends and other family that have helped mold me as a woman and an artist.
