We had the good fortune of connecting with Roderick Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Roderick, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
Often times, our dreams and goals are clear, yet life will throw us curve balls, and make us question if its worth it. I always say, if your dreams, or business idea have never wanted to make you quit, than its not that significant enough. When you truly feel a calling to pursue a goal, it will consume you in ways, like nothing ever has before. There will be moments when you’re exhausted, happy, regretful and optimistic, but you stay in the race because you know deep down inside, you love it, Giving up for me is no longer an option. I’ve experienced enough at this point to know, that life comes in cycles. If you are diligent, open to change and are patient with yourself, than eventually you will see the fruits of your labor.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m an actor/singer song writer. I think what sets me apart from others, is my approach and energy towards my art. I’m open and willing to try new things and not being afraid to fail, allows me to take risks, and stay true to myself and my process. I’m most excited about my journey into creating my own scripts and content. I like the freedom and control I have to create stories from my own unique perspective. Giving life to complex characters that are relatable is something I’ve always wanted to do. I’ve been very blessed to do some amazing things in the entertainment industry. My journey WAS NOT easy. I took breaks, and did other things to help support myself, but I always came back to my first love. Over the years I’ve learned that, being hard on yourself solves NOTHING, and comparing yourself to others is the thief of joy. My journey is crafted specifically for me, and once I learned that, I was less stressed and gave into the process. Id like for the world to know, that my brand is all about self love, self reflection, tenacity, and believing in yourself. The journey ahead of you is beautiful and successful, but only if you believe it is.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m a big foodie so I’d suggest, Colori Kitchen in Downtown LA. amazing fresh pasta, Stevies Creole Cafe in Mid City, amazing fried chicken and catfish, Oh My Burger in Gardena, some of the most flavorful burgers I’ve ever tasted, and Midori Sushi in Sherman Oaks, BOMB.
Of course I’d take them to the Hollywood walk of fame, and Rodeo Drive, Hiking at Runyon Canyon, Santa Monica Pier, drinks at The Perch in downtown LA (great rooftop for views and pics) and the Public Art “Urban Light”, and Six Flags Magic Mountain for the coaster heads, also there is some good shopping on Melrose and The Grove, just to name a few places.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My bestfriend, Denika My sisters, Briana, Brittni and Jasmyne
My mother, Rosalind
These 5 amazing women, were my first fans, first friends and have ALWAYS supported and encouraged my career goals, even when I wanted to give up.
