We had the good fortune of connecting with Rodman Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rodman, the decisions we make often shape our story in profound ways. What was one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make?
the most difficult decision I’ve had to make so far was to either stay in Los Angels or go home (Florida ) (DURING A PANDEMIC), this city like any other big city in the U.S. can test you ALOT, this past year really had me doubting my abilities mentally, physically, & career wise. I chose to stay here and grind it out, now I’m finally starting to see the seeds I planted since moving out here in 2018 grow. Its been a hell of a ride so far and Im embracing it. Im ready for what’s next.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m most excited about my future, each day I learn something new and try to add it into my style and way of thinking so that Im never the same person! By the time this interview comes out I’m probably dabbling into another medium of art. I’m literally the cheesy quote “art imitates life” I actually live the life I present, the ups and the downs. In this world we live in today everyone wants instant gratification, I’m in it for the long run, that’s what sets me apart from others. Im thriving right now solely off of doing good work and treating people good.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
LIEMERT PARK on Sundays, I’ll take them to Little Tokyo for some Ramen, and to check out some anime, stroll through downtown to see what the streets are talking bout. A drive down the PCH is always a vibe; do a lil thrifting here & there (those spots shall remain nameless hehe :D) get our clout tokens up at the shops in Rodeo Drive & Melrose haha. But mainly hunting for dope vegan spots!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a shout out to everyone I’ve met in the past 18 months, rather we still keep in contact or not. Everyone I met so far has helped mold me to the artist I am today, rather it was a big modeling campaign that got approved or a failed relationship. L.A. has been one big field trip lol for me. I feel like Dorthy in the Wiz with all of the cool people I met/worked with. I want to give a big shout out to my Transnomadica family for always thinking of me whenever dope projects come along & giving me access to pulling crazy archive pieces for photoshoots, my family whose been my numero uno supporters since I made the move out west, my KISO kinfolk for getting me familiar with the locals out here & lastly anyone who has ever told me “no” or let me down; cause “what’s for me is for me, what’s not for me is not for me.
