We had the good fortune of connecting with Romeo Nkosi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Romeo, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
There are a ton of people that inspire me and it would take forever to mention all of them, but if I have to nail it down, I think I’d be able to sum it up with these people. My parents. My father, Romeo-SR, who’s taught and prepared me for everything I need to know to survive in this game call life. He’s been my most prominent role model throughout my entire life. He’s been my best friend, the big brother I never had, and my biggest motivator. He’s the one person I know I can always count on and he makes me want to be that for a lot of other people. He’s taught me the importance of being able to stand up and stand out from the crowd and be better than what you and others believe you to be.

My mother, Agnes, she’s one of the major reasons I developed a love for the creative arts. We’d watch a ton of movies together all the time and act out the scenes when I was a kid and she’s always seen my talent and potential in the world of creative arts. So much so that she’s been supporting my creative endeavours to this very day. Her influence has taught me to embrace the fun and creativity of my life, seeing it in a whole new light, one where whatever you imagine, can be real with enough dedication and determination to your dreams.

My stepmother, Grace, has always been a phenomenal and present mother figure. She embraced me as her own son and was always ready to comfort me whenever I felt overwhelmed or anxious about anything really. She’s a testament to being someone who is always dependable, and in a lot of ways she’s rubbed off on me more than she knows. Her sense of love and compassion is one I carry with me and into the world around me. She’s taught me that those two things are essential no matter what stage in life you’re in.

I’m all three of them bundled in one package and they are definitely my best examples of my greatest inspiration.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a profession, I work an office job in the IT industry as a first line technical support technician with a company leading and further developing the domain name space in South Africa and beyond called Domain Name Services (Pty) Ltd. I’m in charge of relaying and providing technical support to customers and clients, gather information to help in the development of support resources, including creating self support content for customers and clients, as well as for fellow or future support staff. It’s a job that involves a variety of skills and knowledge, all of which I’m enjoying implementing and learning. It’s a ton of work but it’s definitely worth it.

All this while I’m studying for my second qualification, a degree in Security and Network Engineering.

One thing that also keeps me busy is turning my passions into a profession, namely the performing arts. Acting, singing, dancing, modelling, photography, etc. I’ve been fortunate enough to have been afforded opportunities to make my mark in the industry, and most recently, qualifying for the UDO Dance World Championships 2025 to represent my country in the UK as a nationally 3rd ranked hip hop dancer in my division.

It’s definitely a privilege and a ton of work to balance out, but I find that things worth while are never easy. My next professional goal would be to finally participate in the very thing that my close friend and fellow artist, Thatohatsi participated in, iPOP in the near future.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My current city of Johannesburg is filled with a ton of things to do for a fun time. I’d split them into restaurants, events and places to go to.

Venues like, The Commune, an excellent spot that blends both a cafe and a book store with a lounge center to enjoy reading books in a relaxed environment. Melrose Arch, a place filled with exceptional restaurants and stores that provide some quality dining and quality products in the vision of a modern day neighbourhood/small town. Karaoke Kong, for a great experience in singing along with your friends to your favourite songs with a vibrant crowd and great food. Carnival City and Gold Reef City, two of the most prominent places for theme park thrills, and a monthly partying event called Prime filled with a ton of interesting people, great service, incredible music and delicious food, and one of my favourite places to visit, Monte Casino, filled with restaurants, clothing stores, arcades, fine dining, cinemas, laser tag, the works.

Those are some of the most prominent places I’d take any friend to for a fun time and that’s only scratching the surface.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to my mother Agnes. One who always supported my academic accomplishments and my goal into pursuing my passions as a creative. She’s also been one to encourage my success in both areas and it’s really been nothing short of inspiring coming from her. Shoutout to my mom for real!.
